Chapter 2
Daniel
I didn’t know why I had agreed with my brother to do this. He had come home late yesterday with a big grin on his face and had exclaimed “My dearest brother, would you like to have one of the most beautiful and powerful woman as your mate.” It was more of a statement than a question. I didn’t know what he had in that devil brain of his but my excitement to finally find a mate after four centuries had clouded my judgement. Now I stood in front of the door of a little apartment with my brother Damien, feeling guilty as hell. I didn’t know if it was right thing to bust a door open and claim the girl to be my mate for eternity. I had thought that this lucky maiden was already a vampire but I had recently come to know otherwise. But centuries of loneliness and useless flirting with women had worn me out, I was tired and wanted a somebody to be with me with whom I would cherish every moment of our eternal lives. I was emotionally too confused that I didn’t know whether to thank my brother or just curse him.
I sighed and asked him what I was thinking, “Are you sure about this?”
His gave me a very irritated expression that reminded me of my father. “I’m always right. Do you want a mate or not?!”
“Yes but…”, “No buts!” His voice was harsh, the usual tone when he was angry or completely irritated with me. Damien was the only family I had and he knew that too otherwise we wouldn’t be living together. He took a deep breath to calm himself then slowly let go of his aura felling the energy around him. A shiver ran from his body and from his expression I could tell that he enjoyed it. “Do you feel that?” Damien asked. His voice was husky and strangely calm. I shook my head to reply.
“Unshield your aura, moron!” I gave him an angry look but I knew better not to argue with him, so I did what he had said to do. As soon as I let go of my aura I felt it, electrifying warmth with a feel of both the living and death. The energy was feminine in nature and was pleasurably intoxicating; a shiver ran through my body giving it a peaceful bliss.
“Oh God! What is she?” My voice was a husky whisper similar to what my brother sounded moments ago.
“You’ll know soon enough,” Damien answered, a smile forming in his face.
I closed my eyes still feeling the pleasurable energy that crept along my skin, all those centuries of existence and I had never felt anything like it. Whoever this was; was clearly special. Then I had a thought. I looked at my brother who was still busy enjoying the feel of the magical energy around us.
“Damien…,” I said, not sure how to frame my question.
“Hmm,” he replied dreamily.
“What is in this for you?!”
He looked at me and chuckled. “Oh Daniel, when will you learn?”
“I’m serious; you would never give something this precious without a price. Just tell me what you are up to.” I was starting to get a little angry or was that jealousy. Great, I was getting jealous of my own brother even before I had seen the girl.
