The city wasn’t my first choice, but I had no other option… Anyway, it wasn’t all bad, at least it was… cozy? I guess that is a word for it.It was surprisingly calm at night despite the racket from police sirens and general ruckus you’d expect from city like this.
One night, around 6:30 I decided to clean up a bit. There was already furniture in the apartment along with a beautiful full-length mirror that looked like it didn’t belong in this apartment accompanied with dark green furniture.
As I was wiping it down, I took out my phone to change the song I was listening to and I dropped it. “Damn it” I whispered to myself as I quickly reached down to pick it up “please don’t be broken… please don’t be broken…” I murmured turning over my phone while holding my breath. “Thank god” I exclaimed in relief.
As I went to stand up, I fell over and put my hand on the mirror for support, but when it moved I jumped to my feet and looked at the mirror curiously. I grabbed the side of the mirror and lightly pulled it.
Upon moving the mirror, I discovered a white door with an ornate, golden handle. Unsure of what I should do, I turned around to look at my unorganized apartment then back at the strange door.
Finally, I reached out and grabbed the handle with my right hand. I pulled on the handle, opening the door. I stood there for a moment staring at the long black hallway. I looked for a light switch, but I couldn’t find one.
I ran to a drawer and pulled out a flashlight, I turned it on and pointed I at the hallway. I looked at my apartment one last time before reluctantly stepping through the doorway.
The door slowly closed behind me. I started walking down the dark hallway cautiously, looking around as I go. As I walk I notice a bunch of doors. They were slightly spread apart and had the same ornate, golden handles.
I want to open the doors to see what inhabits the rooms, but something tells me I shouldn’t.
The floor is made of cement and is extremely dirty. They walls, along with the floor, are covered in blood.‘What is this place’ I thought to myself.
Suddenly I hear an inhuman scream come from down the dark hallway, I freeze from fear. I hear it again accompanied by a man screaming in terror and pain, that makes me snap out of it and I take off running in the opposite direction that the noise came from.
I push on the door I came through, but it won’t budge. I look around at the doors lining both walls.
‘It’s worth a shot’ I think to myself. I pull on the door handle to my left and to my surprise and relief, it opens.Without looking inside the room, I entered locking the door behind me. I hear the creature scream inhumanly as it walks the hall. I stand there holding my breath with my hand pressed against my mouth.
After what felt like a lifetime, the creature finally leaves. I remove my hand from my mouth, I then smell something awful. I lift my flashlight to look for the source of the putrid smell.
The room looks like a bedroom, the smell is coming from what looks like a bed.
I walk toward the smell covering my mouth and nose with the back of my hand. I noticed a red liquid cascading over the blankets. I pulled them back which reveled a person, or… at least what was left of one.
The person had their face and stomach torn out and the intestines spread out on the bed and the bones in their face were exposed, also the fact that they were decomposing didn’t help the way they looked or the way they smelled.
I stepped back in shock “I have to get out of here... there has to be a way out of here” I murmured.
I walked over to the door and opened it, looking down the hallway I stepped out of the room.I turn my attention to the white door I came through. I pulled on it as hard as I could and it still didn’t open “Maybe there’s a back door?” I murmured cowardly.
I point the flashlight at the seemingly endless hallway. ‘let’s hope I don’t run into… whatever that thing was.’
My thoughts trailed off to things along the lines of, what if I never get out of here? And what if that thing gets me? And on and on and on.
I don’t know how long I’ve been in here, I tried checking the time on my phone but it stopped. It feels like I’ve been in here for days.Every hallway I go down looks the same, long dark hallways, multiple brown doors with those same golden handles.
I turn down another hallway ‘I’m so tired’ I think as my rub my eyes and force my legs to keep walking.
That’s when I hear the creatures inhuman scream once again. I panic and pull open the first door I lay eyes on. A brown door with a golden handle, just like the rest. I push myself in the room and lock the door behind me and just in time too, the creature was right there.
If it didn’t know I was here before… it definitely knows now.The bed is against the wall, but there’s a space between the top of the bed and the other wall as far away from the door as possible.
I pull the wooden chair I'm front of the space and sit there on the floor, pulling the chair closer to me and turn off my flash light.
I close my eyes and imagine myself in a field of Daisy's, so I don’t focus on the creature trying to get in the room. After what felt like an eternity, the creature screams and runs away in defeat and I fall asleep holding onto my flashlight like it’s the only thing keeping me alive.
