"I know it's good luck, but I can't help feeling uneasy," stated Terrence.
"Do you see how it sits there staring at us?" asked Geoff.
"It's creepy," answered Terrence.
"I don't think it's big enough to take off with one of us. To be safe, we travel in pairs," commanded Geoff.
"I agree," said Terrence.
"Make camp. I'm going to lay her down by the trees. Put the horses over there. It will be safer," ordered Geoff.
Terrence and Geoff positioned their horses near the trees. Quickly, Terrence placed a rope between two bunches of trees and tied their horses up.
"Grab Merena," commanded Geoff.
"She's hot," reflected Terrence.
"Yes. Get some water for me," requested Geoff.
"I hope this lowers her temperature. We don't have medicine for her," conveyed Terrence.
"No. That is another reason I want to go to a village," stated Geoff.
"Dang. I swear the gyverian can see through the trees. He's staring," related Terrence.
"Better watch out while getting the water. He might get you," retorted Geoff.
"Funny Geoff," said Terrence.
"I thought it was," remarked Geoff.
"Yes, you would. You're not going out there," expressed Terrence.
While Merena's body laid on a blanket, Geoff stripped the dress off her. Soon he wiped the sweat off her body with a rag.
"You're too hot," whispered Geoff.
"Hmmm," whimpered Merena, then her eyelashes fluttered but stay closed.
"Here's the water," said Terrence as he set the bowl on the grass.
"You will have to take a few men and travel fast to the village. We won't be able to move fast, and she is in trouble," related Geoff.
"Alright. We will be fast," conveyed Terrence.
"Did they get my tent up?" questioned Geoff.
"Almost," responded Terrence.
Immediately, Geoff wiped the cloth over her body until it grew hot. When the men prepared his tent, he picked her limp body up. Her arm and head hung while he carried her toward the tent.
"Go fetch some birds, herbs, and whatever else you find for her," ordered Geoff.
His hand smoothed the rag over her body, and he whispered, "I can't lose you. I lost my wife."
"This... is... your... fault...," uttered Merena.
"I'm sorry. You've gotten under my skin," responded Geoff.
"I'm... not... a... object... to... own...," uttered Merena.
"Sir," said a hunter.
"Enter," ordered Geoff.
"We found a few pheasants, telfines, and a wild makataan," reported the hunter.
He placed the plate and bowl on the grass beside Geoff, then said, "I'll be back with the telfine juice."
"Thank you. Bring some fresh cool water. Take the bowl," commanded Geoff.
"Yes, sir," replied the hunter.
Soon the hunter announced himself then entered the tent with another hunter in tow. They carried the drinks and water for Merena.
"When I'm done, we'll get wood and prepare for dinner," ordered Geoff.
"Yes, sir," responded the hunter.
Outside, the hunters finished setting the camp soon; Geoff left Merena's still body behind. They hurried around the camp, gathering additional provisions and wood for the encampment.
Meanwhile, a figure closed in on the encampment, dodging back and forth so he could see the people. When all the men sat around the fire pit, he made his move. The men joked and laughed around the fire as the shadowy figure snuck close to the tents. Soon a blade punched a hole then it slid through the canvas. The figure crept inside and touched Merena's forehead, then placed it over her mouth.
"Shhh. I'm here to rescue you. Don't say a word," whispered the man in her ear.
Immediately her eyes grew wide and round at the voice. Her head shook then his hand slid away.
"Who... are... you...?" asked Merena.
"I thought you were sick. I am Dallas Silverbeak," answered Dallas.
Without hesitation, he wrapped a blanket around her then lifted her from the bed. He ran as if he carried nothing. Soon he placed her on the ground after they were at a safe distance.
"Stay there for a minute," commanded Dallas.
"Alright," replied Merena while she watched him change.
"Lay still," conveyed Dallas.
"You're Avianthrope?" questioned Merena.
"Yes," responded Dallas.
Soon the sky surrounded them as Merena's head and arm hung from his taloned feet. Not long, they heard a no yelled through the night sky.
"She's gone! Find her!" exclaimed Geoff.
"There's a big hole in the tent and prints leading away from camp," reported Terrence.
"Damn it. Who helped her get away?" questioned Geoff, then the words hung in the air.
