THE FIRST TIME BEVERLY HAD SMOKED A CIGARETTE HAD BEEN AT BEA'S. They had been ten and at that time still played with dolls. Three years later as they sat silently on Beverly stairs a cigarette being shared between them Bea couldn't help wondering if all this was the universe's grand punishment for her wrongdoings.

She had never been good with blood, an incident with her birth father at the age of four not helping. Last night had not been good. Not only had she seen blood, and lots of it mind you she had seen her birth family.

It made her think back to her childhood and the day she was given up, the same looks of disgust she had gotten on the daily she could see every time she blinked. Truth be told although Bea handn't seen her family in 6 years they haunted her nightmares often. It wasn't like she could tell people the truth about them, who would believe her if she went running around telling stories about her hybrid parents and crazy vampire relatives. Best case scenario she would be shipped of to an insane asylum.

She was brought out of her thoughts by hearing the voices of the losers approaching making her and Beverly run down the stairs, Bea nearly tripping over a small child as she did. She apologised quickly and ran down the rest of the way.

The group walked their bikes towards the apartment, as Bea and Beverly got down the stairs to meet them. Beverly stopped in front of the group with Bea behind her nervously gulping. The boys watched them expectantly. She couldn't really blame them, they had been woken up bright and early to a cryptic phone call.

"We need to show you guys something." Beverly said looking over the group.

"More than we saw at the quarry?" Richie asked as he adjusted his glasses. A stupid smirk on his face.

"Shut up, Richie! Just shut up!" Eddie snapped annoyed sending him a harsh glare. They all ignored Richie.

"But my dad will kill me if he found out I had boys in the apartment." Beverly said sounding scared of what her dad might do if her found out.

Bill taking the role of leader nodded and turned to Richie, "Alright R-richie keep watch." Bill said as the others dropped their bikes and followed Beverly who had started to retreat to her apartment.

"What do I do if her dad comes back!?" Richie exclaimed throwing his hands in the air. Annoyed at once again being left behind.

"Do what you always do," Stanley called back to Richie. "Start taking!"

"It's a gift." Richie muttered stubbornly. A scowl on his face.

"Bea? You coming?"  Stanley said noticing she wasn't coming making the others turn back to look at her.

"Mmh mmh." Bea make a sound of disagreement shaking her head softly, "I'm going to wait with Richie." The others nodded unsurely but continued up leaving just Richie and Bea.
