BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP

A shrill sound echoed within the walls of the empty, grey, room. Komaru Naegi groaned, and turned in her bed, her arm lazily reaching out and fumbling around to turn off the alarm.

It took the brunette a solid few minutes to get up, first she sat, tiredly rubbing the sleep from her eyes, then she slowly stood and shuffled towards her closet before getting dressed and then, finally, she wandered into the kitchen of the small run down apartment her and Toko had turned into their home.

"Mornin' Toki.." smiling, Komaru greeted her friend, who was sat at the kitchen table with her nose stuck in a book.
Toko glanced up, seemingly indifferent
"Good morning. Are- Are you ready to start the patrols for today?"

Komaru nodded, grabbing an apple for her breakfast and slinging her megaphone over her shoulder as Toko quickly shoved a first aid kit into a small pouch slung around her waist.

The two girls headed out of their home, making their way down the seemingly never ending flights of stairs, before stopping at the fourth floor to check in with their 'patients'

Their patients were survivors of the ultimate despair, people who had clung onto life long enough for either Toko or Komaru to find them in what remained of the city and bring them back to the apartment building 's makeshift medical floor while they waited for the future foundation to pick them up.

The things these poor souls had endured were unimaginable, for some of them, it was a shock that they were even alive.
Komaru had to learn how to treat and help with anything from a nosebleed to a severed arm to a crushed spine.

However, there was only one person in the medical ward in that moment. A woman in her mid 20's. she was found on a boat on the outskirts of the city, hiding under a pile of rubble. The woman refused to give her name, or speak at all, and Komaru couldn't help but wonder what horrible things she must have seen for her to be like this.

Toko left a plate of warm food by the woman's bed before looking over at komaru and leaving the room, the other following right behind.

4 flights of stairs later the pair arrived at the entrance to the apartment building and pushed the passcode into the lock on the door, stepping outside into the refreshing morning air. It was cold outside, not very surprising since winter was just around the corner, Komaru shivered slightly and yawned.

"I'll do the south and west of the city today, alright Toki? Just make sure you pick up your pager if I call"

"yeah, whatever, I will"

And so they set off.
