CHAPTER FOUR

Benjamin Ripley

I awoke and was immediately aware of my throbbing shoulder. My chin still hurt from the day before, when Erica had sucker punched me. I groaned in pain and rubbed my aching eyes with my uninjured hand, scanning my surroundings.

I seemed to be in a spacious bedroom. The bed I was laying in was about twice the size of my room back home, and a magnificent window view looked over the whole resort. A beautiful ray of sunlight streamed through the window.

My day clothes were folded neatly and placed on the ground next to my bed.

I got out of bed and shrugged them on with much wincing and pain. I pulled back the bandage and bit back a grimace. It looked like a flesh colored crater inside my arm.

A transparent closet was on my right side, with an ornate lamp on top, casting a romantic light over the room.

I tenderly put it back on and walked outside.

I emerged into a giant living room, complete with a giant kitchen and a grand piano that probably cost more than my parent's car.

I turned the faucet on and washed my hands, then wondered how to kill time until Riley and Erica got back from wherever they were.

I found my phone resting next to the kitchen sink.

Almost immediately after picking it up, a barrage of notifications assaulted my tire eyes, from everywhere from CNN to Instagram. (Our communications were highly monitored, and any social media we had was on a private platform.)

I scanned them, and was about to turn my phone back off when a notification from CNN caught my eye.

National Security on high alert. Catalyst computer Virus recedes from CIA firewall and database after troubling hours.

I let out a subtle sigh of relief, though for some reason I wasn't totally convinced that we had faced the full brunt of Catalyst yet.

I was so confused about our "Enemy" this time around. We hadn't been attacked, we hadn't received any confirmation that they even existed, and we had no idea where to start looking for them. The objective of our mission was to collapse or remove the Catalyst computer Virus, then clear out the employees of catalyst.

I was annoyed, frustrated with myself, and seriously needing a shower.

But most importantly of all...
