SPY SCHOOL: CATALYST
BENJAMIN RIPLEY
CHAPTER SEVENTwo figures lay on the bed, both unconscious. Of course, somehow, they were Riley and Erica.
I had no idea how they had survived the crash. Possibly a story was in order.
In the dim lighting of the tent, there didn't appear to be anyone else. The guards outside had been my only hindrance.
I knelt beside Erica and grasped her wrist, noting her steady heartbeat.
I did the same for Riley. I sighed in relief, grateful for their survival. Suddenly, the tent flap broke open. A man burst inside, holding his gun, which was unfortunately pointed at my head.
I gulped and raised my hands over my head. He motioned to my rifle, which I slowly set on the ground.
He didn't seem to have noticed my other pistol in my bag. I was thinking about bluffing my way out of this situation with it when Erica suddenly lunged off the cot.
The man yelled in surprise, firing twice before Erica pounced on him. She rendered him unconscious within seconds.
Then she turned around, noting my presence without a word. She picked up my rifle from the ground and expertly checked the bolt.
Riley arose then, having been woken by the gunshots. Luckily, the man had a suppressor attached, muffling the sound.
Two holes in the tent wall flapped in the breeze. All of the shots had gone wide.
Erica stepped outside. I followed her, and Riley trailed behind me.
A massive building loomed in the distance, making me feel like an ant. The sheer size was ridiculous.
Of course, Erica and Riley took it all in stride, hardly pausing to register surprise.
We snuck all the way there without running into any other problems. I was dying to ask Erica and Riley how they had survived, but we couldn't risk giving ourselves away.
The closest we came to discovery was when some kind of sand fox dashed in front of us.
I was so high strung that I almost screamed in terror. Erica shot me a glare and held a finger up to her lips.
A while later, we came to a massive hangar door set in the ground. Only two men stood guard on the outside.
Before we could decide how to take them out, Erica raised her rifle and fired two shots.
In the vastness of the desert, the shots were barely audible. I could barely hear the shot if I strained my ear.
The men collapsed without any screaming. Pools of dark liquid began to run on the ground.
Erica rolled her eyes at me, and I realized I was staring with wide eyes.
Riley and Erica both searched the soldiers, and Erica removed an access card with a flourish.
She swiped it against a miniscule keypad and the hangar doors began to open with a large groan.
It was dark inside, but automatic lighting came on, revealing the hundreds of men blinking at us and readying their weapons.
Oh.
Erica yanked me around the wall as they unloaded. It sounded as if there had suddenly been an Earthquake.
It was so loud, Erica had to yell in my ear to be heard.
"Wait for them to reload!" She shouted. It was still too loud.
We waited another five seconds, and the shooting seemed to have a lull.
Then, without warning, Erica pushed me into the warehouse.
Before I could get shredded by millions of bullets, I dashed behind a pallet of military meals.
Not half a second later, A few rounds punctured the outside of the pallet. Luckily, it held, stopping any bullets from reaching me on my side.
I drew my pistol and fired blindly around the corner. On the last shot, I heard a yelp and the clattering of a weapon falling to the floor. I took that as a good sign.
On the outside of the wall, Erica threw the rifle to me. It slid across the floor, stopping against my foot.
The shooting seemed to stop.
I peered around the edge, and my eyes took in the rocket launcher one man was holding.
I dove across the floor. The warhead screamed into the pallet, strewing frozen meals across the floor. A frozen chicken leg bounced off my face.
Somehow I managed to get my rifle into position, and I simply pulled the trigger as fast as I could.
My shots were way off, one even hitting the floor ten inches in front of the barrel, but it was enough to make the men take cover.
In the few seconds that I had, I slipped in front of a military jeep. In theory, the big engine would provide cover. Underneath the chassis, I saw a few men looking around in confusion.
I laid down some more fire. It was useless, as usual. One stray bullet caught a man in the ankle, making him scream like a baby.
No doubt the magazine in my gun was running low.
I glanced towards the doorway. Erica and Riley were gone, probably creating some grand plan.
A few bullets thunked into the chassis of the jeep. I grimaced.
Then I leapt out, letting my rifle fire wildly until there was an ominous click.
Sweat dripped into my eyes, making me dizzy. My vision went haywire, the jeep in front of me looking miles away.
That was when I noticed the tranquilizer dart in my leg.
"Oh, shoot." I murmured as I collapsed to the ground.
Really short chapter! I needed to cut this short for the next part of the story. Hope you enjoyed! Please comment or share.
