Just do it. he told himself, frustratedly running his fingers through his red mane of hair, but immediately took it back when he imagined your face twist in disgust and confusion at the confession of his affections. The very thought of it made his heart drop in his chest. He had tried so many times to tell you, but it seemed like there was always some excuse that he found to avoid the subject, or when he got close, he'd start to fumble over his words and just end up looking down at his feet with pink, hot cheeks, only to say "nevermind" and walk away. And the fact that the windblume festival was right around the corner made it even worse, with people confessing their feelings for each other left and right. Oh how he wished he could be one of those people with you.

He constantly doubted himself, thinking there's no way you could possibly feel the same way he did seeing as he wasn't exactly one for flirting and weaving words into perfect pictures of blissful euphoria... like a certain Casanova brother that came to mind, one who seemed to take a strong liking to you, in fact. Did kaeya know of his feelings for you? Did he truly care for you, or was he only doing to spite him? Either way, he felt he was no match for the smooth talking Kaeya, or anyone else for that matter. He wanted nothing more than to be with you, to share everything his heart could possibly give and then more. Unfortunately though, love was a mutual affair, and as of now he had only been lurking in the background for the most part waiting for the impossible to happen.

He sighed deeply, the desire to just get it over with was eating away at him as he watched kaeya flash you a charming set of pearly white teeth at a table in the corner of the tavern. The cavalry captain glanced from the corner of his eye, knowing Diluc was watching. The petty gesture made his blood boil even though he knew he was acting like a child by letting him get a rise out of him from it. He tore his gaze away from the two of you and stepped into storage room behind the bar where he could collect his thoughts in privacy. Fire burned deep in his chest. Passion, anger frustration, it all swirled around in him like a volcano ready to burst it's top. The thought of kaeya doing anything to hurt you made those feelings grow even more intense, or even worse, though it may have been selfish, the thought of you truly being happy with someone who wasn't him.

And if he didn't act now, that would inevitably happen, and he'd live his life wishing he'd said something. No, he couldn't let that happen... he'd never met someone like you before and knew he'd never again. Letting you go could very well be the biggest mistake he'd ever make, and the gods only knew he'd made enough of those. The bottles of wine on the wall seemed to be calling his name, his reflection shining back to him on every single one. He walked up to one, and looked back at his ruby eyes in the glass. He took a deep breath, puffed out his chest, and unhooked one of the bottles from it's stand, quickly removing the cork before he came to his senses and forgot the whole thing again like he always did when he wanted to say something to you about his feelings. He winced at the familiar smell of the drink, and dreaded drinking it.

The taste was awful, but it was the only way he'd ever be brave enough to say what was on his mind, and he'd do absolutely anything for you. The deep burgundy liquid burned the back of his throat, and he cursed himself for being too scared to do it without the damn drink. He could slay monster after monster with no fear, but not talk to a girl?

How ridiculous... he thought, ashamed.

But those thoughts soon faded as the drink began to take affect. The room swayed back and forth, and his own two legs felt like they'd betray him and buckle, making him look like more of a fool than he already felt he was. He knocked the empty bottle off the barrel it was on trying to regain his balance, and cringed at the loud shattering sound that no doubt could be heard by all the customers.

"Well, no going back now..." he clumsily opened the door, and shuffled back into the tavern, everyone looked at him for a moment after hearing the crash, but all went about their business after a moment.
