Ginny had watched her brothers race head-first for the platform at 9 ¾ for years, but her mother still insisted that she needed help to cross. How hard is it to run into a wall? Ginny almost sassed her mother, but the impending nerves of leaving home for the first time made her reconsider.

Ginny was ecstatic about going to Hogwarts, but now that she was actually in the train station she had a sudden bout of nerves. It would be her first time away from home for more than a weekend. Ginny knew that however nervous she was her parents were twice as much. Her parents made her promise multiple times to write home at least once a week, and her father made several jokes about crawling in her suitcase so he could go to school with her. Her mom hadn't stopped crying for the entire length of their travel to Kings Cross Station. They were all running a bit late because Ginny had forced them to return after leaving her diary behind at the Burrow, but she stood by her decision. A girl needs an emotional outlet, especially for her first year of school.

Ron and his friend Harry talked the entire way to the station, the excitement of returning to Hogwarts after a summer away made them very talkative. Ron had apparently not forgotten her "crush" because Harry kept shooting her worried glances. Ron had probably told him she was utterly obsessed with him and was gonna propose marriage within seconds. During his brief stay at the Burrow, Harry had not been only in a room with Ginny for more than a minute. Ginny wondered if Ron had also told his friend that she had a wildly contagious disease, he was certainly treating her that way.

Percy spent the ride admiring his prefect badge, he had already told Ginny several times that she was to "stay out of trouble" at Hogwarts. The twins then took to telling her explicitly that she needed to "stay in trouble" whenever Percy was within earshot. Ginny told Percy she planned to keep her head down and really respect the rules of the institution and told the twins that they needed to watch out or she would claim the crown of "best prankster" from them.

Although Ginny had accompanied her brothers to their departure towards Hogwarts many times, nothing prepared her for her own. The train station was alive with energy as people bustled towards their respective trains. Ginny eyed the crowds of people for owls or unusual clothing, anything that would distinguish them from the many muggles in the station. Suddenly the students with their trolleys weren't just strangers, they were her future friends. Ginny could not wait to rush through the wall and begin her journey to Hogwarts.

Percy, Fred, and George raced into the wall with ease. When her father kissed her forehead before racing through, Ginny savored the moment knowing it would be one of the last ones she'd share with him before leaving for the year. Her mother gripped her hand and counted down from three.

"One"

"Two"

"Three"

Ginny and her mother raced towards the platform together.

The platform was ablaze with excitement. Friends happily reunited with hugs and kisses as the buzz of anticipation for a new school year ran through their veins. Parents kissed the foreheads of their young children and embraced them tightly. The familiars of students were croaking and cooing from within their cages. The Hogwarts Express was gleaming on the tracks, smoke was pouring from the engine and the whistle was blowing.
