Ron had a howler at breakfast, his punishment for rash and irresponsible actions was public humiliation. Ginny wondered if her mother did not understand that all of the Weasley siblings got enough humiliation without her help. Ginny had already heard several comments about her family's status as blood traitors or their poverty, and they had barely begun the year.
From the second Ginny heard Ron say "She's sent me a Howler," Ginny plugged her ears. She was all too familiar with her mother's scolding and did not need a headache this early in the morning. Through the muffling of her fingers, Ginny heard snippets of her mother's yelling.
" STEALING THE CAR," Harry had a look of shock on his face.
"EXPELLED," Ron dropped his fork.
"YOU WAIT TILL I GET HOLD OF YOU," Ron's face turned red.
"YOUR FATHER AND I," The twins were trying to stifle their laughter.
"LETTER FROM DUMBLEDORE," Hermione Granger looked horrified.
"DIE OF SHAME," Ron gasped.
"WE DIDN'T BRING YOU UP TO BEHAVE LIKE THIS," Ron put his head into his hands, hiding his expression of embarrassment.
"YOU AND HARRY COULD BOTH HAVE DIED," Harry gulped.
"ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTED," Ron whimpered.
"INQUIRY AT WORK," Ron whimpered, again.
"YOUR FAULT," again.
"ANOTHER TOE OUT OF LINE," one more time.
"STRAIGHT BACK HOME."
Ginny hesitantly removed her fingers from her ears once she was certain her mother's wave of disappointment had subsided. Ron looked as if on the verge of tears as the rest of the Great Hall guffawed in amusement. For a moment, Ginny worried he'd vomit onto his plate from the stress, but after a few minutes of deep breathing, he seemed to calm down.
Ginny herself received a short letter from her parents to congratulate her on the sorting, luckily their anger at Ron did not appear to overshadow their adoration of her.
Dearest Ginny,
We are both so proud of you. We didn't have a doubt in our minds that you would do us proud in your sorting. The whole family is in Gryffindor! Not that there was ever any doubt. We hope you are already having fun at Hogwarts. Please write to us all about your adventures there and tell us about any new friends you make. Remember to stay on top of your work and be polite to all of your professors. We miss you, sweet angel, take care of yourself.

Ginny tried to hide the letter from Ron but he ripped it out of her hands. "Great, I get 'you wait till I get hold of you' and Ginny gets 'We miss you sweet angel' the favoritism is insane!" Ron complained while doing a rather spot-on impression of his mother.
