I could tell Becca was nervous, she always fiddled with something when she was. I reached across and held her hand, giving it a reassuring squeeze.
"You don't need to be nervous darling, they're going to love you and the kids" I quickly looked over at her and smiled. We were driving to my mum's house for her birthday barbeque. All of my family were going to be there to meet Becca and the children.
I parked up on the already pretty full driveway and turned to Becca.
"I promise they're all lovely. They've been moaning at me that they haven't met you yet. They can't wait to meet you all" I turned to look at Archie and Olivia in the back and smiled.I got out of the car and so did the kids, Becca stayed motionless. I went round to her side and opened the door.
"I promise it will be alright. I will be next to you the whole time"
She turned to look at me and gave a weak smile.
"Come on mum, we're hungry" Archie was leaning over the bonnet.I held out my hand for her.
"You promise you're not going to leave me stranded?"
"I promise"
"I hope they like us"
"Of course they will, they are going to love you. You've already met Emma"
"Yes, and Emma's lovely, but this is your mum... I..."
"Stop being silly darling and get out of the car"She took my hand and stepped out. She was stunningly beautiful in that floral summer dress and strappy heels.
"Uh, I don't think heels was such a good idea"
"Stop stalling and come on. I'll carry you over my shoulder if you're not careful soon"
"Uh... Fine" she stuck her hands up. I raised an eyebrow at her.
"You know I'm joking right?"
She dropped her arms and gave me a cheeky smile.
"So am I, but maybe later?" she giggled, she was trying to lighten her mood.
I took her hand and we linked fingers. Once the kids were out of ear shot, I leaned down to her as we walked, "you know I can't resist you in that dress, I'm trying very hard not to whisk you off somewhere over my shoulder right now and take you against...""TOM! Darling"
"Mum!"She was stood in the doorway with a huge smile on her face.
"At long last, Becca" she held out her arms for Becca to go to her. I let go of Becca's hand and she stepped forward into the open arms of my mothers waiting hug.
"Its so good to finally meet you." She let her go after giving her a kiss on the cheek and stepped back.
"You too, thank you for inviting us Diana"
"The pictures Tom sent do not do you any justice at all. You're so pretty. How ever did he snare you?"
"Umm his comic genius" she giggled.
"Funny too" mum nodded whilst looking at me and smiled.
"Well don't leave your mother standing here, I haven't seen you for months"I stepped forward and lent down into the hug giving her a kiss on the cheek.
"Happy Birthday mum"
"Awww thank you darling""And these must be Archie and Olivia?"
Becca nudged them forward.
"It's nice to meet you" Archie was being the gentleman and gave her the bouquet of flowers they picked out.
"Yes, definitely very nice to meet you" Olivia was smiling. Olivia handed mum a small gift bag and card."Happy Birthday" they said together.
"Oh thank you darlings, that's very sweet of you""Well come in, come in... The foods all getting cooked outside. I think everyone is out in the garden, drinks are in the kitchen and I've got some champagne in the fridge for later"
We headed through and out to the patio area at the back of the house.
Emma was here with Jack her husband and Sarah was here with Yakov her husband. The guys were on barbeque duties and the girls were stood near already drinking even though it was only 11am.
