Kai's POV
A month has passed.
We were all sitting around the lounge, exhausted from the training session we'd just finished.
Jay had become more talkative by now, but still nowhere near his usual level of blabbering. He also started joking around and being a little more silly.
Cole was still hanging out with Jay a lot, now coming along with him whenever he went to visit his parents.
Zane and Pixal had finished their project, which had turned out to be a small machine that could make decisions for you. Cole and Jay absolutely loved to make the joke that it was technically their kid, and as some jokes get old, this one didn't (for a while, at least). The expression on Zane and Pixal's faces were even more hilarious each time.
Lloyd had started playing against Cole and Jay when he wasn't with Wu, he also made jokes a lot more than usual for him. He still tried to get me to talk to him sometimes, but for the most part, he just chatted with me.
And I... I don't know. I felt exactly the same as I had a week ago. And the week before. And also the week before that.
Always tired... sad... guilty... But I don't think the others have really noticed.
"Ugh, I still don't get why we have to do so much training!" Jay groaned.
"I agree, an hour would be more than enough for me," Cole said.
"We must always be ready for a surprise attack," Zane said. He said that a lot. So much, that I was starting to think that he knew something we didn't. Like he had had another vision.
"Yeah, yeah..." Lloyd agreed sarcastically, although he sounded only partly sarcastic.
"Anyway, anyone wanna play charades?" Jay suggested, changing the subject. Cole's face lit up.
"Oooo! Can I go first?"
Later...
Zane and Pixal were chatting in the kitchen, they were making lunch.
"Hey, guys...!" I say, coming in and leaning on the counter.
"Oh, hey, Kai! What's up?" Zane says looking towards me. I sigh and try to look plainly curious.
"Well... have you had a vision? It's just, I noticed that you seem to be acting like you've had one recently..." Zane looked a little surprised as well as Pixal. They looked at each other, and then both put down what they were doing.
"I'm surprised you noticed that, Kai..." Zane said slowly with Pixal coming up behind him.
"He has. As well as me. I had the same vision as him..." Pixel said. They both looked a little uncomfortable.
"What was it?" I asked. They looked at each other through a side glance again and stayed quiet. I got confused, and a little worried. "Why are you acting like that...?" I say unsurely. Zane sighed.
"You see, Kai-"
"MAIL!" I jump a little before trying to act as if nothing had happened.
"Oh, let's go see if we got the package!" Zane said quickly, and running out of the kitchen with Pixal close behind. I slump. I guess that that would have to wait.
I follow the way Zane and Pixal had left to find the others all outside in the courtyard.
"There's a letter to Jay... oh and a package for Zane and a letter for Pixal!"
"Thanks! Looks like Cyrus Borg read our letter, Pixal!" Zane said passing Pixal her letter.
"Oh, it's from my parents... Awh, they say that they'll be on a trip so I can't visit them this week..." Jay says, disappointed. Cole chuckled.
"I'm sure you'll survive, you saw them 3 times last week!" Cole said teasingly. Jay rolled his eyes.
"And... this for Kai," Confused, I take a bundle of letters from the mailman.
"Woah, Kai, that's like, 10 letters!" Lloyd says before looking at me smugly. "What do you think? Fanmail? Or something else?" I look from him, back down at the letters, to see who they're from.
"Uhh... Oh wow...! Not fanmail, letters from..." I read the names of the letters. "Uhm, just a few of my- I- I mean-" I felt a strong pang of sadness hit my heart. I scrunched my eyes closed. It was so hard to even mention her. "I meant, mine and N- Nya's old friends..."
I knew what their faces would be. They would be worried. So I kept my eyes down on the letters. "Oh, and... 2 other letters... both from... my parents...?" I say slowly. It was strange. One letter from my mum, and another from my dad, and they were both dated to the same day. So then why send 2 separately?
Lloyd's POV
Kai looked a little confused. I was worried for him, he had struggled with just saying Nya's name, I wondered how he had held up so long without having anyone to talk to. I looked around at everyone else, they all seemed to be thinking the same. Kai gasped. I looked back at him and he looked shocked.
"What? What is it?" Cole asked. But Kai didn't answer. He ran straight past all of us and the mailman. Then he summoned his elemental dragon and flew off. We were all surprised.
"Uhh, ok..." Jay says unsurely. "Should we go back to playing charades?"
"Only after lunch, it should be ready by now..." Pixal says, folding up her letter and walking back towards the monastery. I go to follow her but pause and turn back around.
"Uhm, thanks for the mail!" I say, waving goodbye to the mailman.
30 minutes later...
"Hmm..." I couldn't even begin to think about what Cole was. He seemed to be acting like... like he was shy? Oh!-
"A kid! Uhm... you as a kid!" Jay yells out just before I do. Cole does finger guns at him.
"Yup, the card was 'Your younger self', I was a pretty shy kid," Cole chuckles.
"Yes! My turn!" Jay jumps up and picks up a card from the pile on the coffee table.
RING
My phone vibrates in my pocket. I take it out and see Kai calling me. I blink away my surprise and pick up.
"Hello?" It was silent for a moment.
"I... I need... help..." Now I'm extremely confused.
"What? You need... help?" I repeat. I mean, I understood that he needed help, but he didn't sound in danger or anything. There was a slight pause.
"I- Ignacia... village... my home... " I didn't understand what that meant.
"You're... in the village of Ignacia? Why? What do you need help with? Are you in danger?" All those questions were left unanswered as he hung up. I take the phone from my ear and blink at the blank screen.
"So... Who was it that needed help?" Jay asked. Everyone was looking at me, I realised as I looked up from my phone.
"Uhm... It- It was Kai..." I say. There's a look of surprise on everyone's faces.
"Did he say what happened?" Cole questioned, standing up from where he'd just sat down.
"No... He sounded... strange... Like, he didn't sound in danger, he almost sounded like he was in shock..."
"Huh," Jay said looking suspicious in thought. Then Pixal gasped.
"Wait, is it today!?" What?
"Uhh... what?" I say slowly. Then Zane looks as if he understood.
"Pixal's right-"
"NINJA!" We all jump at the sudden shout. It was Master Wu.
"Oh uh, Master Wu! What is it?" Cole says shaking off his surprise.
"What are you still doing here!? Kai called you for help, yet you're still here talking!" We all look at one another.
"But Kai didn't sound-" I began to say.
"He isn't in danger, Lloyd, but he still needs help!" Zane said standing up from his seat and running out of the room with Pixal close behind.
"Well!? We need to go!" Wu yells at us. We all jump at the cue and run out as well.
