DJ was no bad person. Fate just happened to turn a blind eye and he ended up like this. Medic could tell he was in serious agony, but painkillers were scarce.
Medic always pitied anyone who was injured. It was only human of her.
Right now, she had to throw away a piece of her humanity. When resources grew slim, she had to put the most critical at the top of her list.
DJ was one of the few on the top. She was surprised he even had the power to attempt sitting up when Commander began to leave. She could feel the misery coming from both of them.
DJ had at least two badly bruised ribs, a broken ankle, and a deep cut on his face. Freezer was a big help during these times. As ironic as it may be, some ice helped with a few wounds. (He helped with other things, of course.)
Commander was rarely seen after he came to the tents. A pile of lightly damaged belongings appeared a few feet away from them after a few hours. Some chairs, documents, guns, and a few pieces of clothing.
Medic always did her best to observe things around her. Surprisingly, no zombies had been spotted, though it had only been a day since the "Zomborg". The disappearance of the deafening gunshots was very odd, to say the least.
DJ had nightmares. She could tell. A lot of people did, including her. Though, she did not know of Commander's current condition.
It was probably poor. When others approached him, he seemed to leave immediately. She knew his emotions were complicated. Seeing a close friend hurt. But then again, she knew DJ wasn't simply a friend to him. He wouldn't realize it for a while.
Medic sat alone outside, taking a small break. It must have been late afternoon by now. Everyone had been found. Soldier and Demo had recovered Ranger and Rocketeer. They seemed okay, just shaken up a bit.
People were forced to sleep on the tough, rocky surfaces. It was horrible. Small fires were built from the wood of dead trees, but there was no food to be cooked.
Medic clutched her (no longer white) jacket, and wished that things got better. Unexpectedly, she saw Commander out of the corner of her eye. He moved towards her, and Medic got up.
Commander glanced into the tent, but closed his eyes quickly and spoke to Medic. "I need you to do something for me." He said. "Everyone you can get, here, tonight."
"I-I can do that I suppose." Medic stammered. It was very odd for Commander to be here, it must be important. "Can I ask why?"
"We need to leave this place. Everyone is hungry. If that- that- THING comes back, we're done for." He spoke softly.
Medic wore a melancholy smile and sighed. "You got me there." She nodded. "I can do that for you."
"Thank you." Commander gave her a weak nod back. Even through his cracked sunglasses, Medic could see that he was tired. Very tired. He began to walk off.
"Wait, let me bandage that up for you." Medic pointed to his shoulder. "Don't want it getting infected."
"-Yeah I guess not." He said, reluctantly following her into the tent, like a scared dog. Medic knew he was trying not to look at DJ, but he really couldn't help it.
Medic grabbed some fresh bandages and directed Commander to take off his jacket. The cut was already a bit inflamed.
"Freezer, I need some ice over here!" She called for him.
"On it!" Freezer called back, and quickly walked into the room with a small handful of ice. He stopped momentarily, surprised seeing Commander. He handed Medic the ice, and walked to Sniper, making sure he was alright.
Medic lightly wrapped the ice in bandages, and pressed it against Commander's shoulder, before wrapping it all up.
DJ must have heard the commotion in the room, because his eyes fluttered open for a moment. He glanced around the room, his eyes finally laying on Commander. You could see his worries leave his body for a moment. He took a shallow breath. "Commander." DJ spoke softly, but insistently. "Please don't run away this time."
Medic could hear the sheer worry in DJ's voice.
Commander walked over to DJ. "I won't." He sat down on a slightly broken chair.
"You're worried about something, I can see it." DJ said. "You don't have to tell me what it is."
"No- I just- I-" He took a deep breath. "We won't survive another attack."
"..I know a guy..." DJ said.
Medic couldn't help but overhear. They really cared for eachother, it was no secret. But, she knew her boundaries, and stepped out.
That night, almost everyone met beside the dead tree near the tents. A small fire had been set up. Everyone quieted once Commander joined the group.
"We're leaving this place tomorrow morning." He said. "At the crack of dawn, we need to collect what we can, and leave." He drew a crude map in the dirt with a stick. "Only grab what you need."
Commander pointed to the horizon. "We will head east, and hopefully find some supplies. I have someone we need to find. Get ready for a day of marching. I don't care how tired you are. If we stop, we will all die."
Collective nods and murmurs came from the audience.
Medic's voice was heard over the crowd. "Who are we looking for?"
Commander raised a hand and everyone went silent.
"A man named Accelerator.."
