Gray laid in his bed staring at the ceiling. It was May 15. His birthday. He sighed. 'Just another day.' Gray didn't celebrate his birthday.  Not really. His parents were always to busy with work to acknowledge him, let alone spend an entire day focusing on him.

He never really had friends as a child so he never had anyone to tell. When Stephen came into his life he demanded that Gray be celebrated. It was the most fun he had ever had, when Stephen dragging him around the city and buying him things before buying him food and settling on the beach.

Gray smiled at the memory. Though Stephen was no longer around that was one of the few memories he could remember without feeling sad. He didn't know why. Maybe it had to do with the picture pinned on his wall right above his desk. One of him and Stephen on the beach with their food in front of them. Another with Stephen in an American cartoon headband, Mickey Mouse, and Gray with cat ears both of them in a for of giggles. Another with balloons wrapped around his wrist, his fingers mimicking Stephen's which were in a peace sign, smiles on their faces looking at one another.

Stephen had gotten those pictures printed and Gray had gotten them in the mail for days after Stephen was hospitalized. He couldn't bring himself to put them away so he couldn't see them, just like the other pictures Stephen had given him. He pointed them in his wall, making sure he could see them when he studied or anytime he was at his desk.

He sighed and hailed himself out of bed and got ready for school. He hadn't told his friends about today being his birthday, other than Ben, who had seen the pictures and the date underneath one of the times gray was teaching Ben to properly play Teken. He had no way to divert the question, he had already explained who Stephen was and what had happened to him.

The only thing was Ben could never keep his mouth shut. So unless he forgot about today being Gray's birthday, he was bound to say something. Which indeed he had.

Been had told the whole crew when Gray's birthday. He explained that he didn't usually celebrate it which meant they had to make this one great. They weren't quite sure what to do for him. Other than studying gray didn't show a ton of interest. They thought about books, but that would be generic. Until Ben had an idea. Maybe they could try it...

That was about a month ago they came up with the plan and they put work into setting it into motion. But they finally had it. They were going to give gray the second best birthday ever, as nothing could to the first one he celebrated.

When Ben and Alex came into Gray's classroom they found him sitting in his seat, notebook open preschool moving, next to Eugene. The thing that was shocking them was that he was smiling. Gray didn't usually smile, and when he did it took a lot to do so. Eugene also looked as if he was in a good mood. He had already wished Gray a happy birthday, which put a small smile on the stoic boys face.

"Hey Gray!" Alex smiled at Gray.

Gray looked up. "Hello!: he sounded genuinely happy. Something had put him in a good mood.

"Happy birthday man!" Ben smiled.

Gray key or a small of of air to match his small, but very noticeable smile. The two together seemed like a laugh. "Thank you."

The floor boots talked for a bit before noticing that Gray hadn't been studying, but drawing. They had seen some of his smaller doodles, but never anything extreme. Nothing like this.

On his notebook a smiling boy with shaggy dark hair was smiling with his fingers holding up a peace sign. Above the brightly smiling boy was, written in Gray's stood neat handwriting, 'peace sign of victory?' Been was the only one who recognized him as Stephen.
