Nightmares - Luffy x reader

~Y/n pov~

I awoke to soft cries.

My vision cleared as I looked around, trying to spot the source of the sound.

I noticed Luffy was crying and whimpering in his sleep.

Turning to face him, I gently shook him awake.

He jolted up with a start.

His breathing was ragged and his cheeks tear stained.

"Luffy?"

The boy turned towards me at the sound of my voice and just stared at me for a few seconds.

"Luffy? Are you okay?"

He wrapped his arms around me tightly and buried his face into my shoulder.

I returned the hug, gently running my hand through his hair.

"Was it that nightmare?"

I felt him nod.

Ever since Marineford, he has been getting nightmares about Ace's death.

All I could do was try my best to comfort him.

I whispered soothing words into his ear as he continued to cry.

My shoulder was getting wet from the tears but I didn't mind.

A little while had passed and Luffy stopped crying.

All I could hear now were small sniffles.

I pulled away from the hug slightly and frowned upon seeing his tears stained face.

Gently, I wipe the tears from his face.

He leant into my touch, nuzzling his cheek against my palm.

"Let's lay back down, okay?" I laid down, pulling Luffy with me.

He shuffled closer to me and pressed his face into my neck.

I gently ran my hand through his black tresses as Luffy sighed contently.

"Thank you. I love you." It was muffled but I still made out what he was saying.

I smiled softly and placed a small kiss on his forehead, "I love you too."

Luffy's breathing evened out as he fell asleep with a smile on his face.
