There are hands on you. Male hands that you do not recognize. Whoever that man is, he is holding you down, strapping you to a chair, putting a leather strip to your mouth, and making you bite on it. You are clenching your jaw hard. And then the next thing that you know is the energy that flows through your body. It is painful as anything you've ever known. And it doesn't stop.
Then, out of nowhere, there is some sense of comfort.
And then, you wake up. You don't really remember much from your time with HYDRA. Your memory whipped clean a couple of times. You only "remember" your time in captivity in your sleep. In fact, you only dream about that time. Nothing else.
The door to your room opens and your father steps in. He looks worried and one look at you and his worry isn't really decreased. You are drenched in sweat, panting and your eyes are swollen, like you'd been crying, even in your sleep.
More scared than before, he steps towards your bed and gently embraces you. "Hey, kid! Bad dream?"
You nod your head frantically, while still gasping for air. You feel that your lungs are burning and the air inside the room is so stale and thick at the same time. The embrace that you are into does nothing to calm your panic and only makes your anxiety rise more with each second.
Without even thinking about it, you violently push Steve off of you, sending him to the floor as you bolt towards the window. You open it in hurry and force yourself to take a deep breath. The night air fills your lungs and the smell of the nearby trees soothes you.
Your dad, worriedly approaches you, trying not to scare you.
"I'm sorry," you say. "I panicked. I didn't mean to push you."
"It's alright. Do you feel better?"
"A little."
You turn to fully look at him, but neither of you speaks and silence falls again into the room.
You take a deep breath and go back to bed. Getting under the covers, you can feel your father stalling at the door.
"Will you be alright, kid?"
"Yes, dad! I'm not 12 anymore!"
"I know." He says and closes the door behind him as he exits.

As the night progresses, you find that going back to sleep is impossible. Grabbing the pack of cigarettes that you keep in your nightstand and a lighter, you make your way towards the living room and the balcony.
Overlooking the city and completely lost in your thoughts, you don't realize that someone is approaching behind you.
"I didn't know that you smoked."
"Sergeant Barnes!" You exclaim, completely scared.
"You know that those could kill you, right?"
"I thought that you smoked." You say, completely caught off guard.
"I do." He states matter-of-factly. "But that doesn't mean that I don't know the dangers of it."
"Believe me, Sergeant. I am aware." You say and offer him a cigarette. He accepts it and nods gratefully. He puts the cigarette in his mouth and inhales deeply after its been lit.
"I don't really smoke." You say to ease his worry. "Only when I'm really stressed."
He nods and he gives you the idea that he truly understands.
"Nightmares?" He asks out of the blue. That makes you look at him questionably, pretending that you don't understand what he's talking about. He points at you with the same hand that holds the cigarette.
