Chapter 3

You don't have a good understanding of your surroundings. Your world is fading in and out. The only thing that you are certain about is that you are strapped on that horrible chair again.

That Doctor with the weird name is saying something to you. You turn to face him. You slowly blink and the Doctor is waiting on you expectantly. Your mouth falls open, but no words come out of your mouth.

The Doctor yells something at you and slaps you across the face. The man raises his hand again, but another hand stops him. "Она просто ребенок" * says a male voice. And the Doctor stops.

There is a desperate kind of agony that follows. There is pain and tears and you keep fading in and out of consciousness. And then, a loud bang follows.

"Убери их отсюда" *The Doctor yells. "Get them all out." He follows. "All?" You think. "Are there more like me here?"

People are unfastening the leather strips that keep you bound to your chair, but they are not fast enough. There is a blur of blue and white and then you are finally free.

Amongst the chaos, you recognize your father taking you down from the chair and trying to keep you steady. He runs his hands over your face and hair, trying to make sure that you are not severely hurt.

Around you, the noise from the battle is unbearable. It makes your temples hurt and the cries of pain make your stomach turn. "Can you walk? I'll get you out of here."

As you walk through the base you know that something is missing. You grasp Steve's hand, making him stop. "Wait! We... It's..."

But you never get to finish your sentence. You once again lose consciousness, your father catching you.

Going on that tour with Pepper was in fact the best decision. Pepper, being her organized self, asked questions whose answers you didn't think you needed, saving you a lot of trouble in the meantime. Having her there though, meant that you were not off the hook after the tour.

You turn to walk towards your car, after the tour is over, when Pepper grabs you from your shoulder, making you turn to look at her.

"Where do you think you're going, missy?"

"Home?"

"Oh no, no, no! You are not getting away. We are at least getting lunch together!"

You smile at the woman and nod at her, happy to spend some time with her.

"Fine! But, you have to come with me to the bookstore. Loki and I run out."

Pepper looks at you with disbelief and then shakes her head. Eventually, she walks ahead of you and she extends her arm for you to hook it around hers.

"Maybe I should make Tony build a library at the compound. I'm sure that it would be much easier than buying a pile of books every week." She murmurs, making you laugh and shake your head a little at the proposal.

"Oh, no! Don't laugh at all! It's a serious thought. I'm sure that Loki and you would be very pleased."

You stop dead on your tracks, looking at her, trying to make sense of what she was proposing was true.

"Really?"

"I mean, sure!" She says and smiles.
