Kiera remembers screaming.

The initial shock of hearing such sounds coming from her throat gives way to pleasant surprise. She remembers how her uncle rushes across the room to her side, grabs her shoulder and starts shaking her.

His fear is palpable. She can hear it in his voice, in his eyes, the weak grip on her. Kiera hears his voice, telling her to keep quiet, trying to keep the harshness out of his tone. But she won't stand for it. She throws his hands off, falls down and lies on the cold tiles, her shrieks bouncing off the four walls surrounding her.

Her aunt is now standing, sobbing. Her uncle stands beside her writhing body helplessly. Her four-year-old cousin stares at her in confusion than begins wailing himself. The door is flung open and people in long white coats and mask advance towards her, followed by a woman in a suit.

As they bundle Kiera up in strips of white cloth and buckles, she yells in their ears. Then she feels a painful prick on her arm. As her vision fades into blue spots, she is hoisted up and she catches one last glimpse of her family members as they try to recover. She knows that they won't change their minds. They will leave her here.
