Abuelita laughs at what Alex and Andrea said.
Elena puts on a big fake smile and says
"Abuelita ill learn more Spanish when you learn English" Elena replies
"oooh the shade" Andrea loudly whispers
"I know the English, besides your Abuelo, God rest his soul, did not marry me for my mind"
Elena walks away confused while Penelope says
"who do you think your insulting?"
then Alex decides to join the conversation while Andrea goes to sit on the couch
"Good one, mom"
"he wants something" Andrea points out then Alex continues
"by the way, what are the last 16 digits of your credit card?"
"told you"
Penelope looks shocked then says
"uh, what are you doing? are you shopping 'Cause who said you could shop?"
"you said I could order sneakers for school," says Alexz
Penelope and Andrea look at the screen and both laughs as Penelope says
"five pairs?"
"Monday through Friday, don't worry I don't need weekend sneakers"
Penelope scoffs"oh well, I can't have my son walking around in Monday sneakers on a Saturday, somebody might call child services"
"Also I don't even need new sneakers" Andrea points out
"cause you don't have a reputation loser," Alex says as Andrea sticks her tongue out at him
"anyways, mum I'm serious. I'm in middle school now how I look kinda matters"
"Okay, so you can buy one pair under $40"
"what about me?" Andrea questions
"you to mija"
"Wait forty?" Alex says breaking the conversation between the mother and daughter
"that'll get you perfectly good sneakers to last the whole year"
"The whole year!?" Alex asked shocked
"okay mum, I know we're not rich but, are we poor?
Penelope looks shocked
"idiot" Andrea mutters
"No, we're fine" the single mother reassures
"that sound like poor"
"we're not poor! I mean, look around! you have a tv, a refrigerator, you both have laptops "
"these are things poor people have!"
the Cuban mom looks at him and says
"We have an air conditioner"
"you never let us turn it on" Alex smarts her
"his not wrong" Andrea calls out from the couch
Penelope points and her and says "hush" while Andrea just puts her hands up for surrender
then the mom turns back to her son
"Anyway, the point is you could, but don't, don't ever touch that thing"
Alex just sighs while he sits at the table and Andrea gets off the couch and sits opposite Alex
"All right, it's Friday night. Family dinner night. come on, let's go! Elena come set the table, Alex, Andrea, help me make a salad. this meat was heavily discounted, so I need to cook it before it turns.
everyone tries not to look at Penelope in the eyes
"you guys already ate didn't you?" Penelope questions
Alex and Andrea get up at the same time and say
"she made ropa vieja" Lydia slaps both of the hand that we're pointing at her then they turn to their mum "we're not made of stone"
Penelope turns to her mother
"Mami I told you this morning that I was going to cook tonight"
"I thought it was a joke and I thought it was hilarious" Lydia reasons
Alex comes up to his mother
"Sorry mom, do want us to sit and watch you eat?" Alex asks
"yeah" Andrea agrees
"no" Penelope laughs at her kids
"we'll just start next Friday okay?"
"Okay" all the kids agree
all the kids left for their rooms and went to bed
