As Nick walked into his first period classroom, he made several "notes to self" on who to trust and who to steer clear of. When he finally chose a desk to sit in more towards the front of the class, he heard a familiar voice call his name. "Nick! Hey, I didn't know you were going to be here!" Ellie exclaimed. "What's up? How was you summer?" He answered, making sure not to say something too stupid. "It was good, besides the fact that I had to stay at my grandparents house doing nothing but visit child museums. I mean, come on! I just turned 15! I don't need another person seeing me as a ch-" She was interrupted by a loud voice. "Alright class. My name is Mr. Farnes and I am going to be your math teacher for the rest of the year." Some of the kids started snickering in the back, saying things like: "Unless we die of boredom." or "Farnes. Who's last name is Farnes?" A laugh broke out at the last one. "Excuse me, Mr. Benn? Would you like to repeat that? I don't think I need to send you with a white slip already, do I?" Jimmy Benn was the class clown, and also was famous in the detention room. He had gotten more white slips in one year than anyone had ever gotten ever, so says some unreliable sources. "Oh, nothing. I was just saying something to my friends, that's all." "Well then. I guess I won't need to start dulling my pencils with your name. Ok, last year you learned about the angles of a triangle and their relationships, right? Good, today we are going to start our lesson with a quick review..." He had said more but Nick didn't hear any of it. He found himself staring at Ellie. Her piercing green eyes seemed to shoot holes into his body. Her hair, falling perfectly into the right position. If only he had the courage, he would have all of it. "What are you looking at?" She said, interrupting his thoughts. "Oh, what. Oh sorry, I didn't-" He tried to finish, but she just gave him a childish grin. She always won him over with that one. It was a final decision maker, and he loved every aspect of it. "How about you, Nick? I heard you always had the answer?" Said Mr. Farnes, obviously seeing him distracted.'Uh oh!' He thought. He had barely paid attention so he gave it his best shot. "Well, if angle B is equal to the angle of x+22-(-17) and angle C equals 67, then angle B is..." He had to think. " Than x is equal to 6 so angle B is 45 degrees." He stated barely confidently. "That is correct! Nice work!" 'Phew! It's a good thing I didn't make a fool out of myself!' He thought to himself. The day went on, and Nick and Ellie ended up in the same classes, sitting next to each other. However, the bus ride home was without her. He knew where she lived, he had even found an area where he can see her get off the bus. He decided that today was a good day. Nick was excited to see her again tomorrow.
