I watched the sun come up from my window, giving me my que to get out of bed. Only three hours of sleep I know I will be dragging, and I know I need to be on alert with my sugars. I make sure all my alarms are set and Humphreys along me throughout the day.I walk out of my room and head down to the kitchen. I command Siri on my phone to play my morning playlist. Sia fills the kitchen I put on the pot of coffee and collect some things to make breakfast.
Nan has a few frozen bagels from the bakery already sliced in the freezer. I pull them out and take some eggs, cheese and bacon from the fridge.
I place three bagels in the toaster and set them to the highest setting. ( This is a convection toaster similar to one used at Starbucks) I crack six eggs and scramble them with milk. I cook the bacon and the smell fills the house.
I pull the bacon out and drain it on a paper towel, leaving some of the bacon grease in the pan, knowing the eggs will taste better in the same pan. I pour into the skillet and continuously stirring and folding keeping them fluffy and not burnt. I hate brown burnt eggs.
" Morning." A voice calls to me.
James is in his sweat pants and he has a long sleeve on, better hiding his metal arm."Morning. Coffees ready, Cream and sugar is already on the counter." I say pointing to the small coffee bar next to the breakfast nook. I keep my eyes on the eggs as I take them off the heat and pull the bagels out of the toaster. I butter them and place the eggs on the bottom half, then add the bacon and a slice of cheese, closing the sandwich and placing them on plates.
James moves to the coffee station and pours himself a cup, as well as one for me and places it on the table.
"Thank you." He says as I hand him a plate.I keep a piece of cheese in my hand and wait for Humphrey to nudge my hand. He waits and nods then taps my hand with his nose.
"Good Boy." I say and toss him the cheese.I take a bite in my sandwich and it is delicious. Nan known to freeze the bagels from the Moore bakery in Brooklyn. We used to go every Friday for their breakfast specials. When Nanny goes to visit her friend Juno she always brings back a dozen and freezes them knowing I'll make one when I come to visit. (If you read my last story you know this bakery)
"This is very good." James says as he about finishes his breakfast.
" Thank you James." I say, taking a sip of my coffee.
"You know...you can call me Bucky." He suggests as he puts the last bite in his mouth.
I smirk. "Ok...Bucky"Nanny comes in with her work out clothes on and looks pumped and energetic. I forgot it's Saturday, Zumba class at the Y.M.C.A.
"I'll take mine to go. I need to meet with the girls early. Hope you don't mind having the house to yourselves for a bit." She asks while wrapping her sandwich in aluminum foil and pouring herself a to go cup of coffee."We have plans today." I mention to her and collect the plates from the table.
"Well you will be on your own for dinner." She added moving to me.
"Good!" I tell her as she leans to kiss my cheek goodbye. " your cooking sucks" I joke with her which gets me a tap in the back of my head.
We both chuckle as she pats Bucky on the shoulder.
"Look after this one, she's trouble." Nanny insists and leaves the house.I bring the pan into the sink and run it under the warm water. I hear Bucky get up from his chair and collecting things from the coffee bar. I turn and watch him place the creamer back in the fridge and take the dish cloth from the counter. He moves to my left side and dries off the dishes and cups I've placed in the drain.
