rico had dressed his best for the occasion. he didn't want to think about the implications of that today's event was. he didn't know what happened, only that it was his fault. today was kowalskis funeral. everyone had been invited to the quickly put together event, but rico knew that none of them really cared except him, private, and skipper. private. he wouldn't be coming today, he had told skipper it would be too painful and that he would say goodbye on his own. another missed opportunity to confess to him. rico knew private had skipped the funeral to save any awkwardness between them that time had caused. there were so many questions running through rico's tiny tiny brain. had private matured? taken on another lover? did he miss rico? did he ever look at the photos of their relationship and years of friendship with longing and a sense of loss? rico couldn't think about this. it was kowalskis day and it was selfish to be horny for someone else's funeral. rico hated being sad. ever sense he was a small penguin, the only emotion he couldn't handle was sadness. rico remembered the day kowalski died: he had showed up to kowalskis house for their scheduled weekly meet up. conversation had been relatively normal but there was an odd tension in the room. he knew there was something wrong, so he asked kowalski. kowalski had swallowed and said,"i have a hit on me." rico was confused, because he didn't see any bruises. "NOT LIKE THAT IDIOT there's someone after me and i don't know who. they know i have something rare and they want it but they can't have it." that only confused rico more but he tried to understand why kowalski was in a panicked state. kowalski was his best friend and was the only one there for him when he and private broke up. kowalski was like his brother. before he knew what was happening he heard a gunshot and saw a splatter of blood. without thinking rico ducked and hid under the couch they were sitting on. he looked out from under the couch

he saw gloria the hippo with a sniper rifle in hand. she walked over and picked something no someone up and laughed darkly as she held a dead kowalski by his feet and shook him. "dead as a door nail. boss will be happy." she said with a happy smile. when she left rico didn't know what to do. there was blood all over the floor and his friend was gone. gone. no. dead. killed by that horrible hippopotamus. rico had seen plenty of horror movies in his time so he had a good idea on how to clean up but that didn't mean he wasn't still bothered by it. rico cleaned up the blood and went outside to see kowalskis corpse laying in the grass of his front lawn. deep in shock he called an ambulance that took kowalski in and it didn't take long before he was pronounced dead. he called skipper to let him know that he was dead and what their options were. they could bury him, cremate him, or he could call this really good taxidermist he knows.

they had decided to cremate him and scatter his ashes across the arctic. it was a tough decision but it was the right one. that was two days ago. rico was still in shock, having kept silent about the killer hippo amongst them. the last thing kowalski would have wanted is drama at his funeral so he showed up early to talk to his dead friend before the others arrived. only after looking at the pictures surrounding the urn containing his ashes did it hit rico: kowalski was really ugly. he was so horrifically ugly that it was a little funny. kowalaksi was ugly but it somehow never bothered rico. and now he would never see him again. all because if gloria. if rico could fund raise m, he could get a hit if his own places on gloria. or he could set mort after her. but that would wait until after the funeral.
