"Captain! A letter came for you!" Armin yelled as he waved the piece of paper up in the air.Levi raised an eyebrow, his confusion rising as he thought back to anyone who would send him a letter.
"Who's it from?"
"It's labeled underground scum. Do you know anyone like that?" Armin asked, his eyes widening as he saw all the blood drain from Levi's face.
"Eh? Captain are you ok?"
"I'm fine. You can go now." Levi waved off as he took the letter from Armin's hand.
"M/n..." Levi said as he stared at the letter in his hands.
Sighing, he opened the letter and began reading.
A letter to Levi.
Yo! Levi,
It's been years since I left and years since I talked to you.
How've you been?
Did ya find a lover yet? If you didn't then do you have someone to look after you?
I don't want to worry about you anymore since you have a habit of overworking yourself.
Well, I just wanted to tell you that I'm sorry.
What am I sorry for?
Where do I even begin?
I'm sorry for acting like a jerk in front of Erwin and for embarrassing you in front of your scouts.
I'm sorry for being insensitive.
I'm sorry for not listening to you when you told me to get lost.
And...
I'm sorry for leaving you.
That has to be my biggest regret.
Leaving you.
If I didn't leave then maybe your heart would still be with me.
Ever since the day I met you, I was in love.
It was strange but it was there.
That tiny feeling constantly grew larger and larger as time went by.
I felt so at home when I was with you.
We robbed together.
We laughed together.
We loved together.
Even after leaving you, I couldn't help but come back.
That day that I left was a day that I will never live down.
I had to force myself to keep going and not turn back just so I could hug you.
Call me selfish.
Call me an idiot.
Call me anything you want but I did all of that because I loved you. In all honesty, I still do.
That love for you never went away.
When I saw you with Erwin, I almost threw up.
You were laughing.
You were close.
Like we were.
It hurt like a bitch but what could I do?
You were in love with someone else.
Ever since I came back everyone had been telling me to move on. Telling to give up. Get married.
I was stubborn and said, "Unless I'm getting married to you, I don't want it." What a fool I am.
It's been years.
Yet somehow you manage to stay on my mind.
I really should have known.
From the day I met you.
Til the day I die.
Our love was short.
Vague if you will.
It had an expiration date that we couldn't exceed.
I finally let you out of my heart.
As you read this letter don't feel guilt or pity.
It was never your fault but always mine.
Love isn't something that lasts.
Levi,
Our love never lasted.
Levi's hands trembled as his shoulders shook, the letter scrunched up in his hand as he read it over and over.
M/n was right.
Their love wasn't something that was meant to last.
Levi was glad it didn't because if it did, neither of them would have made it out alive.
"Captain, are you ok?" Armin asked as walked into the dimly lit room.
"Yeah."
"...do you know the person?"
"He was someone from my past. Someone I want to forget." Levi said as he stood up, the letter in his hands as he walked away.
And so ladies and gentlemen,
Levi Ackerman and M/n L/n's love was out of time.
Their love, like many others, never lasted.
Fin.
