I sighed as my eyes strained to see the computer screen. Female rap in my airpods as I grafted for the company. My company. The sound of my long acrylics tapping on my laptop keyboard and me ad-libbing my tunes, filled my bedroom. This is what gave me the biggest joy in life, working hard for myself. Knowing that I got to enjoy the results rather than someone above me. I manifested the lifestyle.
I pulled my hair out of its low bun and stretched, the endless typing and packaging parcels took a toll on my lil body. I usually had assistance but today I had to remember my independence. My hair dangled down my back, almost touching the thong peaking out my Juicy tracksuit.
"Give yourself a break, Ari." I spoke to myself as I saved my progress, closed my laptop and made my way downstairs.
"SHIT!" I shouted as my fight or flight instinct fell into place. "Sam, I thought you were out till this evening." I breathed out, staring at a beaded eyed Sam.
The house I lived in was phat and I couldn't really hear through my music half the time. I shared my crib with a few roommates; friends really. I didn't see any of them much as we all had our own lives, my assistants were here more than anything.
He laughed. "Relax girl, I had to pick up something before I go out again" He said while still laughing at my panicked state.
"What are you picking up?" I asked as I flicked on the kettle on and started fiddling around with tea bags and cups.
"Take an educated guess." He muttered.
Listen, I don't agree with it, but some of my roommates are into some dodgy shit. More time I turn a blind eye, and i'm not gonna be here much longer since the expansion of the business.
I lifted myself up onto the kitchen island and watched him as he weighed out his shit. Reloading whatever the fuck he was shotting this time.
"Wasted talent." I said looking down at the buds on the counter.
Sam kissed his teeth, shaking his head. "I ain't wasting nothing, this is temporary.
I poured my water onto my teabag before looking back at him and rolling my eyes. "I mean that as a compliment, you're a star boy. Don't fuckin forget it." I swirled the spoon.
"Don't watch that, as long you getting ur rent money and protection, don't worry bout me." He scrambled about looking for his car keys.
I jingled his Audi key in my hand before swinging them his way.
"Safe." he caught them in his hand and he was a goner.
I sipped my tea, I wouldn't be here for too much longer. I had a feeling he'd be bringing something to my doorstep soon, considering what he's wrapped up in. I was always taught,
Don't shit on your own doorstep.
Being able to move out at our young age was a big accomplishment, whether it was legal work or not, we all worked our arses off to be in this position. My phone rang which alerted me. It was Jakob, the other roommate. I pressed green and it connected.
"What you sayin, girl." He smiled down the screen.
"Fuck all, what's up?" I asked.
"We got people coming to ours later tonight, mainly sam's boys. You cool with that?" He asked me.
I raised an eyebrow. "I literally just spoke to Sam and he ain't say shit." Jakob rolled his eyes."
"Yeah cuz it's all his mandem and he knows you ain't gonna be fucking with bare gang in ur kitchen." He laughed finding it funny. "Classic, Samuel."
I grit my teeth. "Bro I really don't wanna be apart of it, it's escalating a lot."
Jakob nodded and turned on his engine. "What do you expect from him, like?" He muttered. "Bring your girls."
"Right, yea, true. I'll see you tonight then." I yawned.
"Safe." He said bluntly. I ended the call and sipped my tea, which was lukewarm now.
"Ew."
