 five' o clock, same Friday

Trisha took a deep breath as she stepped onto the threshold of her childhood home. She recalled the days when she and her sister would race each other to daddy's waiting car. Of course, that was when they were kids. As they grew older, frequent comparison made them grow apart. Her sister was the perfect one and she was the loser.
"I wonder what she would say if she saw me now. I'm doing well sis." She said to the sky and smiled sadly. "I hope you are to."
"What are you doing outside? Isn't it hot? Or have you finally lost it?" Jeffrey, her oldest brother stood behind her, momentarily startling her.
Her relationship with him has never been rosy. Thrust into the world of business at an early age, money making were the only alphabet he knew. Add that to the manipulative nature he inherited from his father and you can understand why a bond never formed within them.
"You both should know not to stand in front of the door. Either go in or walk out" Her second older brother, Benjamin, said. He poked his head through the half opened door glaring at them from the inside
His character was the strangest. From hot to cold, crazy to sane, angry to pleased, you would think he has a disorder.
He grinned like a Maniac showcasing all his teeth.
"Mom knows you are here Trisha come in. It's dinnertime guys and I'm starving." He walked back in just as suddenly as he had interrupted, leaving both of them dazed.

                                                                            _________

Trisha walked slowly to the dining quickly surveying before finding a favorable seat far away from her father, her manipulating eldest brother and her conniving yet timid looking mom. A seat not at either ends, a seat beside her psycho of a brother.

"Trisha," he exclaimed, "you need my protection today?" he whispered the last part.

"just shut up and let me sit beside you" she whispered back fiercely, smiled and sat down gently like no conversation was going on between them.

Senator Babalola Balogun sat at the head of the table with his wife, Lauren sitting to his right. His first son, Jeffrey, sat to his left with his pregnant wife, Sandra beside him. Trisha raised her hand to acknowledge her, a gesture she returned with a smile. Jeffery caught the unvoiced conversation going on and frowned. Trisha rolled her eyes and looked away. Among all the official members of the house, Sandra was the least troublesome. A true peace maker, she was probably the only reason why the family was as intact as it was. The dishes were quickly served leading to a very quiet and peaceful twenty minutes before Babalola interrupted.

"Why haven't you said anything about the scandal yet?" Trisha bowed her head and closed her eyes, slowly letting go of her spoon.

"I have"

"Is it the dumb cover up you did?" Jeffery interrupted. Trisha looked sharply at him,

"Maybe its because your DUMB father made me do it," she sharply replied. The moment she said that, she knew that she had messed up. She slowly turned to look at him and smiled nervously. The whole table looked on with baited breath not knowing what would ensue. Benjamin looked on with a  wide grin, way too amused with the situation than he should be. As if a switch had been flipped inside of him, he angrily hit the table startling everyone.

"CAN'T ANY ONE SEE THAT I AM HUNGRY. IF YOU ARE NOT HERE TO EAT THEN LEAVE." He glared at Jeffery and proceeded to gently chow down his food.Trisha gently tapped his legs in appreciation.

"Its okay, anybody can see he is just being stupid. Plus I'm hungry, aren't I?" He whispered.

"See me in my office Trisha, the moment you are done." Babalola said, stood up and walked away.
