Playing with Memories

Chapter 6

“That day, mum and dad were out for an important meeting and me and Noah were instructed to look after Emily who was 10 years old that time. Me and Noah were twins and were two months younger to turn 18. It was late at night when we tried calling our parents, Emily was asleep, but me and Noah were worried about our parents, they were not picking up our calls, we also enquired in the office. The receptionist said that they left an hour ago. But, the office was at a distance of 20 minutes from our house, I asked Noah to go to the office and enquire more. Then the last thing I remember was seeing their dead faces. It was difficult for us to cope up with the situations. The next day when I woke up, Noah had went missing. I filed a missing report too but the officers never found him. Uncle Sunil became our legal guardian, I moved to Braville along with Emily. I brought up Emily for 8 years and sent her back to India. Only one month had passed when I met with that accident and then became able to read minds. I miss my siblings a lot………….”  As Natasha finished the story there were tears in her eyes. After that they went to bed. The next two days went well. Now it was Thursday, and Steffi called Natasha at midnight and said “Hello Natasha, guess where I am? India. And guess who is sitting in front of me?..........… it’s Emily. Lastly, guess what her condition is? Let me tell you. She is tied to a chair and I am holding a pistol in my hand. Now, listen to your dear sister’s cry” Natasha went blank and she heard Emily on the phone. “Sister…...Ouch….leave me you morons. It hurts”
“Stop it! Steffi, what do you want?” screamed Natasha.
“Lower down your voice Ms Natasha” said Steffi with a laugh.
“What do you want?” asked Natasha.
“I want Robert Wilson”
  Natasha was completely heartbroken. And was too overwhelmed to say something. “Make him forget yourself or forget your sister” said Steffi.
“But how can I do that” said Natasha in a low voice.
“That's your problem. Do anything but he should never ever take your name. After you do that, come here and take your sister away. And then, never you dare to show your face to me, my family or Robert. I am giving you 48 hours, that means Friday and Saturday, come to Mumbai, I will give you more details once you are here” replied Steffi.
“Fine. But don't you dare harm my sister” said Natasha.
Steffi hung up the call. Now, it was Friday morning and Natasha told the whole story to Aisha.
“What? What will you do now?” said the terrified Aisha.
“I will think of something” Natasha pacing around. After a while she told Aisha to listen to her Grand Plan.
“I will erase myself from Robert’s mind and then he will never even take my name”
“What? Wait, are you serious? I thought you came up with a nice idea!” said Aisha.
“It is a nice idea. When he will drop me here tomorrow, I will erase myself from his mind. Yes! It's perfect” said Natasha.
“Hey! you know that your fate is decided. If you make him forget you but when you meet him again what is the guarantee he will not fall for you again?” asked Aisha. Natasha thought for a moment and said that she will go and settle down in India after erasing his memories, so they will never meet again. “Ok. Suppose you do it all. But, Uncle Sunil will definitely invite you to the ring ceremony or the marriage. Then, what?” said Aisha.
“Then……. I will erase myself from their memories as well and then I will go and settle down in India so I will not be able to meet the Jefferson family or Robert”
“And what about your feelings?” asked Aisha.
“They don't really matter. Do they? For once, just for once in my life, I wanted to do something of my own choice, but seems like this world did not like it. Anyways, I am going to bed. I have to do a lot of work tomorrow” and then she went to bed. Now, it was Saturday and as planned Natasha was out on the dinner. The dinner went well then she was offered a ride home, when they reached the cross road near Natasha’s house, she said “Can you drop me here” he asked the reason to Natasha.
“I am so sorry, Robert…. But I have already lost my brother Noah, I can’t lose Emily too” saying this she closed her eyes and erased all his memories including her, then she got off the car. “Why am I even here”  he said and went home. Then she rushed to the Jefferson’s mansion there she erased Uncle Sunil’s as well as Aunt Kelly’s memories too. Natasha had already packed her bags, she took them and directly went to the airport. She arrived at the Mumbai Airport, and reached the given address. She saw Steffi standing near the chair on which Emily was tied.
“Oh! So here comes our loser” said Steffi laughing madly.
“Please, I already told him to forget me. I……...  I made him say that he hates me. Now, leave my sister” said Natasha.
“Look, how desperate your elder sister is” said Steffi untying Emily. She also gave an envelope to Natasha saying “This contains all the information about the boy, dad fixed your engagement with. He will be waiting for you at the New Delhi airport. The ticket is already in there, now get lost.” When Steffi was leaving Natasha erased her memories too, and created a memory that she came to India for a tour. Natasha and Emily took the flight to New Delhi. On the way, Emily asked many questions one of which was “What had happened sister?”
“Actually, me and Steffi wanted to make a deal with the Americans. They would shake hands only with one of us. The Americans decided to strike the deal with me instead of her and she wanted to win so she threatened me to cancel the deal if I want to see your face again. And never come back to Cape Town or Braville” said Natasha smiling. “Just one deal? Is that all?” asked Emily.
“That deal was once in a lifetime chance. Many Businessman wanted that, it was not an ordinary one” said Natasha making an excuse.
“Is sister hiding something from me?” wondered Emily.
  Natasha read her mind and decided to erase the memory of her kidnap and create a memory that they were going to New Delhi to settle down there forever. She closed her eyes and did the task. When they landed, a person waiting for them. Natasha reached the man and he asked “Ms Natasha Stevens?”  Natasha asked him if he was the Peter Jones whose name was written on the visiting card which Steffi gave her saying that he is the one who was supposed to be her future fiancé. The man said that he was his driver and was supposed to drop her to Peter's mansion. When they reached the mansion, Natasha was astonished to see the bungalow as it was even bigger and more beautiful than Sunil’s mansion. Peter greeted her good morning and she also did the same. Then, Peter took Natasha to her room and also showed her around. That night when they all sat down for dinner, Peter surprised Natasha by saying, “You are my partner from now”
“What exactly do you mean?” she asked.
“A partner in my company “Karma watches”. From now on you own 49% of partnership in my company. Congratulations!” he said.
“But-”
Emily and Peter had started clapping before she could say anything.
“You can join from tomorrow” said Peter smiling. The rest of the dinner went well and everyone went to the bed after that. It was almost 12 at night when someone knocked at the door, it was Emily. Natasha asked if something was wrong.
“Can I talk, sister?” asked Emily. Natasha told her to come inside and sit down.
“Brother Noah……... I saw his photograph” said Emily.
