Karmony

Ugh! It gets more difficult every year to watch more Dewbies get married. Each year I get to count how many people will walk up to me and say, "Next year you'll be up there; don't give up." Today's total? 22! Twenty-two times I heard that tonight. Relaxing in the Hot Springs, calms me, I can literally feel my pulse slowing. Slower.... slower....

"Hey Karmony! Tough break tonight, huh? Well, there's always next year," twenty-three times I mutter to myself. I turn to greet my killer of all good things.

"Hey Hattie!" I scoot over, as she invites herself to my one-person pity party. I don't dislike her, just looking for some silence from the thoughts running around in my head.

"Did you see that explosion after Joven and Pann kissed? Wow! I thought it was going to blow the top off the cavern," she even demonstrates the explosion with her hands. Great a movie, WITH sound. Hattie is usually an easy person to be around, but tonight she is two-stepping on my last nerve.

"Yes, it certainly did look .... Um.... Great" I add lamely.

"I almost feel sorry for Joven," she says, leading me into asking for information. Hattie isn't the best for keeping secrets, so she's perfect to get information from; just don't always assume it's accurate.

"Why, what's wrong with Joven?" I ask, come on Hattie don't let me down; let's hear what you've got to say. She stopped talking, but I'm pretty sure she's just pausing for dramatic effect.

"Well, you DO remember that I work for City Records, right?" Oh good, she's gonna drag this way out, I'm only in this spring water for two hours. Hattie needs to speed up the process.

"Yes, so.... What do you know?" Prompting her again.

"All I know is Joven isn't married; not legally," she adds with a wave of her hands.

Whoa! Wait a minute, I think of something before I get my hopes up and any of my girl fantasies.

"Oh, did the Reverend forget to file the marriage papers into the records at City Hall?" Fingers crossed behind my back and Hattie will deliver the news I've wanted for the past three hours.

"Oh, the Reverend filed signed papers alright," I feel the sadness creeping back in but Hattie goes on. "Only I know things even he doesn't know, and he's as single as the day he was born, 29 years ago today."

Shut the creek up!!!!!
