Location: Sobu High School
A generic and yet prestigious high school is shown located in one such area known as Chiba City. The entire building is located near the sea, the wind changing with every passing moment as numerous amounts of Male and Female students are shown, wearing their mandatory school outfits. Many talking among the hallways, discussing all manners of topics, others simply walking by; seemingly hurrying towards their next awaited class. Laughter and chatter could be heard from all around, listen closely and one could hear all manners of rumors and stories. In a classroom, among many cheerful students, sat a silent teenage boy of average height and build. His dead "fish" eyes glancing cynically towards his fellow students.
Mysterious Narrator: Youth is both a lie, and a form of evil. (The black haired student simply smirks and stands up, holding his school bag with one arm as he walks away) Those that glorify youth are only fooling themselves and those around them, and believe that their surroundings always affirm their actions. (While passing through the hallway, he roams past a female student picking up her dropped books, seemingly uncaring towards others needs) By using the word "youth", they twist and distort common sense and anything logical. For them, lies, secrets, sins, and failures do nothing but add spice to their youth. (Wandering towards a windowed hallway, the student stops walking, seemingly awaiting the arrival of someone) If failure is the hallmark of being young like they say, then someone who's failed to make friends must be at the peak of his youth, right? (Not noticing two other rushing students behind him, he is suddenly pushed forwards, forcing him to drop a written paper in his hand as one of the male students steps onto his paper, leaving a shoe mark). However, I'm sure they would disagree. All of this is just their double standards at play and nothing else. (With a stoic expression, the strange student kneels down to pick up his paper) Here's the bottom line: Fools that enjoy their youth should go kill themselves.
Yet before the curious looking student could lift his paper off the ground, another hand reaches out, revealing a familiar ring on the persons index finger, picking up the students paper off the ground, not revealing their facial structure yet.
Mysterious Narrator: This is my altercation, my words of wisdom to you, my perception of a "youthful" life. Signed by yours truly, Hikigaya Hachiman.

The unusual student known as Hikigaya does not seem particularly grateful as the mysterious student hands him his written paper, revealing himself to be Y(N) L(N), wearing the school uniform in a seemingly normal and regular fashion. Both dead eyed students seem to have an annoyed expression on their faces and yet not at each other as each of them turns and walks in the same direction as the other. One and the other walk in a seemingly strange fashion, shoulders slumped and a hand in their pocket.
