The cool breeze chills my skin

despite the shining sun

beaming in my eyes.

I watch my dog pad across the lawn,

her tail wagging with delight,

nose glued to the ground.

My toes curl into it -

between the bright green

strips of nature's soft confetti.

I wonder if she smells

the flowers and dirt,

hears the flap of a butterfly's wings

from far away.

I pick up a dandelion,

with white fluffy seeds

and blow against them.

I watch as they tumble and twirl

into the air,

like falling ballerinas.

For once, I don't make a wish

or close my eyes -

I am here,

in the moment.

Anything and everything I want -

I can get,

or I already have it.

The world

owes me nothing.
