“Louis, he’ll be here,” Niall comforted me again. I sighed and saw Liam shoot Niall a glance as if to say Don’t get his hopes up.
“I don’t think he will, Nailler.” I said sadly. “It’s alright. I’ll see you tomorrow, okay?” I said, forcing a fake smile as I sent them out the door. Harry wasn’t going to be home for my birthday, and that hurt more than anything we were forced to do. It hurt worse than when I had to kiss Eleanor, and it hurt worse when I saw him with Taylor. Because that was all fake, and we knew it; Harry missing my birthday- that was real.
I sighed, and collapsed in my bed, not wanting to spend the next two days without my boyfriend.
“Lou,” I heard a soft voice whisper in my ear. “Wake up love, it’s your birthday.” I smiled, and opened my eyes, knowing that voice anywhere. Harry’s green eyes pierced mine, and I smiled when he showed off his dimples. “Happy Birthday, Louis. I love you.”
“Harry!” I shot out of bed, hoping it wasn’t a dream, but yet again, I was disappointed. I looked at the clock and frowned when I saw it was already 11 am. Harry still wasn’t here, and he wasn’t coming. Management must have forced him to stay with Taylor. I tried to distract myself, so I got on Twitter, and read through my birthday mentions. For once, the nice things the fans were saying and trending didn’t make me smile. I wanted to, but I couldn’t, not without Harry here. He was the one I cared about most, he was the one I wanted to be here, and he was the one person who wasn’t.
I turned off my phone, and threw it to the wall in frustration. I couldn’t help the choking sobs coming out of my mouth. I slid down against the wall, and dropped my face in my hands, letting out all the tears I had been holding in. He didn’t text me, he didn’t call me, he didn’t even fucking tweet me. It was my fucking birthday, and he wasn’t here. I sat against the wall, letting out a strange mix of sobs, yells, and choking noises.
I heard a noise at the front door, and I looked up, not even trying to stop crying. A second later, the door swung open, and I froze as Harry nearly ran in. “Louis!” He said, running over to me. Tears welled up in my eyes again, not believing he was here. “Shh, baby,” he said softly, as he knelt down next to me. He brushed my hair back and he wiped the tears from my face, and he pulled me in for a tight hug. “What’s wrong?” He asked.
“You…weren’t… here,” I choked out in between sobs, as I wrapped my arms tightly around him, never willing to let him go.
“Oh, Lou,” he sighed softly. “I’m so sorry, love. I got here as soon as I could. I’m here now,” he whispered in my ear, as we both still sat on the floor. Harry just held me until I finally stopped crying, but I still wouldn’t let go of him. “Come on, love,” he said, trying to pull me up.
I clung tighter to him, scared that he’d leave me again. “Stay,” I said, even though my voice cracked from the crying.
“Louis, I’m here. And I’m not going to leave you again. I would never miss your birthday, no matter how many people over at management told me I needed to.” He said.
“Really?” I asked.
He smiled and nodded. “I love you. And this is too important to miss. This is what we’re fighting for, Louis. To get to spend these moments together. To get to be together openly someday, without worrying about the punishment. This is why, no matter how hard things get, we’re fighting for us. Always remember that, okay?”
