"Mm I see, thank you (Y/n). I believe it's time for breakfast. You ought to head downstairs and join the rest of your siblings." Mama said sweetly as she stood up and extended a hand to me.
As I reached out to grab her hand, I swore I heard footsteps getting fainter. As if, someone were walking away from me and Mama.
She seemed to take notice of this, and a visible look of skepticism make its way onto her pale face.
I didn't think much of it, so I just got up off the floor and dusted my skirt off.
"Well I'm going downstairs now Mama. You should too."
I left her alone in the hallway, muttering something to herself. As much as I wanted to listen in I didn't.
Everyone downstairs seemed so lively, children yelling and laughing together as they always do. I walked over to my usual table and sat across from Ray.
He looked...annoyed to say the least. Maybe disgusted? Something probably happened, and what friend would I be if I didn't check up on him?
"Ray you good? You seem a little bit off today."
No response, he just keeps looking the other way and acting distracted.
"Damn, ok then."
I'll admit, I was a bit pissed off. That meeting with Mama before hand likely sparked this irritation. I was really not in the mood to be dealing with this.
I ate in silence and avoided talking to Ray especially. The only thing going through my mind was the escape plan. I had a couple of ideas worth considering, but so far nothing final. I still wanted Norman's opinion after all.
After what seemed like an eternity and a half, breakfast was over and our daily tests were about to begin. As always, it doesn't take the four of us long to complete it.
Norman had the same neutral expression as always, and Emma was looking around the room aimlessly. Then Ray, he looked distressed. Bothered by who knows what. But if he doesn't want to talk to me about anything then what can I do to help? Nothing really, so I'll just stay out of it.
"Alright children, let's go over the scores shall we?" That sick voice spoke. It's not even lunch time and I'm already sick of this.
"Norman, Emma, (Y/n), and..." Mama paused momentarily, her eyes widening in disbelief.
"Um, congratulations! Perfects scores again!"
There was a moment of visible confusion. Norman and Emma made eye contact, then looked at me. And all three of us proceeded to look at Ray.
"Whoa Ray didn't get a perfect score?"
"The world is ending isn't it."
"Oh shoot what's my score then..."
