“Shay! They’re back! Oh my God, they’re back!” Kate, my best friend, squealed from her window. The window looked out to the main entrance of her family’s extensive estate and that could only mean one thing. Her family was back and so was my mom, the King’s personal guardian. Oh yes, my mother was pretty hard-core.
“What?” in a flash I was standing next to her, gluing my nose to the glass. “All of them” I breathed as I saw the whole Petrov Family and my mom climbing out from the black SUV in the glow of the lights from the house, with a big smile on my face. The rest of the estate was dark with the ocassional balls of light that were lined against the white stone road that lead from the gates to the main house.
I grabbed her hand and pulled her towards her bedroom door. I wanted to hug all of them as fast as possible. “Come on! Come on!” I ushered her towards the hall but she couldn’t seem to believe that what she was looking at from her window was real. After a few more tugs my best friend was running behind me, down the hall and down the impressive marble grand staircase of her mansion.
We both burst through the front door just in time to see that those few, short seconds that had taken us to get from her bedroom window to the front door were enough for three men all dressed in black to have guns pressed to each member of the Royal Family’s temple.
They were all extremely buff and tall and their eyes were red. Guardians, I thought. They had to be, no one could get inside the King's estate without setting an alarm off or bumping into a guardian. They were all impostors, they had somehow made their way inside the estate without getting noticed, but making it short, this meant treason. Kate’s mom, dad and older brother each had a personal executor. At least a dozen guardians surrounded the Royal Family and their aggressors, including my mom. All crouched; growling and hissing at the men in black. I tensed, Kate was just a few seconds behind me and she tried to walk around me, ignorant to what was going on. I pushed her back and she stumbled. "What--"
Everyone turned to look at us. Perfect.
In those couple of seconds I had I looked around, taking in every little detail. Aside from the men with guns, The Petrov Family, and the guardians there were other men in black, hidden in the darkness. I could see their well built silhouttes. At least fifteen. They were way too many. By the seems of it they were all well trained. And the guardians hadn’t noticed them yet. Just my luck, I thought bitterly.
I locked eyes with King Petrov in that moment. Run, he mouthed.
I looked at my mother and she turned slightly looking at me from the corner of her eye. Her face softened from her growl. She had a sad smile on her face. She nodded. Go.
That was all I needed to start retreating. When I did, the unimaginable happened.
The guy that had a hold on the King pulled the trigger. Screams. One from Kate and the other one from the Queen.
The sound of the gun going off made me snap. I pushed Kate further inside the house.
"NO! DAD!" Kate was struggling against me to get to her father.
I started closing the enormus, bullet proof front door, but just before I did I couldn't stand to leave all the guardians without a heads up.
“There are others! Hidden in the back!” I screamed.
Just then the guys in black that had been hiding silently in the back jumped out of their hiding spots and I realized they were more than 30. I grabbed the heavy front door and pushed it all the way, locking the 7 dead bolts on it.
