Bandages slowly unwrapped as it revealed a scarred face, whimpers escaped the young boy as he struggled to speak.
"I-I-I...."
"What is it Sho, does it hurt?"
"N-no..... Kind of"
"Are you sure? What can I do to help it?"
"I d-don't think you can do anything......"
"Then what is it?"
The younger boy hesitated, fear traveled to his eyes, diminishing all hope that used to be there.
"Touya.....please don't be mad at me."
"I don't think you can do anything in the whole world that can upset me right now," Touya joked, but soon shut up when he saw the look on his brother's face
"I promise, Sho, I won't get mad,"
"O-ok then, um, Touya, I-," Shoto hiccuped, "I can't.....s-see," The last word was soft, but was still heard.
The boy burst into tears the minute he uttered those words, his brother looked at him blank faced, trying to register what his younger brother just said. A small tear trickled down the older boy's face.
"I'll......I'll kill them, I'll kill all of them," Touya raged.
"Please don't be mad."
"Oh, Sho, how can I get mad at you for that. I'm mad at that bastard and hoe,"
"N-no please don't be mad at mom, Mom didn't do anything wrong...."
"But Sho, she did this to you, she.... she hurt you."
"Father made her, Father made her do it," The younger boy sobbed.
Touya sat there, thinking about what to do, he ended up mentally agreeing to listen and believe his brother.
"Shoto, I promise, that one day when I'm all big and strong, I'll come back and wipe that bastard off of the planet." Touya said triumphantly.
"D-do you promise?"
"I promise, I'll even pinky swear on it, though you have promise something"
Shoto looked at Touya with a puzzled look.
Touya chuckled
"You have to promise me that you'll smile, even when times get hard."
A small smile grew on Shoto's face as Touya wiped away his tears.
"There just like that."
"Alright, I'll do it if you do it," Shoto exclaimed
"Ok, pinky swear."
"You know you can't go back on a pinky swear." Shoto said
"I know that, but we have to keep our promises whether we pinky swear or not."
"Ok, let's do it then"
"I, Touya Todoroki, pinky swear to come back when I'm older and kill that bastard we call Father."
Shoto frowned a little bit
"And rescue you and keep you safe for your whole life." Touya finished with a smirk.
"Yay! My turn, I Shoto Todoroki, pinky swear that I will smile even when things are hard."
The both burst out laughing as they hugged each other.
"I love you Sho, forever and ever."
"I love you too, big brother."
But we all know what happened. As you know, life ain't perfect, it doesn't grant us every wish we have. It's cruel, and to survive you have to be equally cold and calculating. Like many people say, "If the world turns it's back on you, you turn your back on the world." And that is exactly what Touya Todoroki did.
Shoto watched as blue fire consumed his house, ugly tears dripped down his cheeks.
"Touya's still in there," His voice yelled out, raspy from all of the screaming before.
"We have to get him," He sobbed, pulling at his sister's and brother's pants.
Both of them were sobbing equally ugly tears.
"We can't Sho," Fuyumi whispered, not trusting her voice.
"Why not?"
"Because......"
Fuyumi went silent, unable to find a suitable answer. Shoto's breathes grew heavy as he yelled out.
"I DON'T CARE,"
Screaming, he tore away from his sibling's tight grip.
He ran towards the flaming building in attempt to save his brother from the menacing fire. His sibling's chased after him in desprete attempt to stop him when suddenly, as he was just a few feet away from the building, it exploded, sending all of them flying back.
Shoto opened his eyes to see that the building was completely burned, not a trace of life was present.
He was dead.......
Shoto couldn't believe it, his best friend, his brother, his brother who pinky swore that one day they would take down their father, the one that promised to keep him safe, the one that would be with him forever..... he was dead.
All light and hope completely disappeared from his eyes, from his soul. A weak smile, appeared on his face as he started to laugh.
"You told me Touya, you told me to always smile, and here I am smiling as your body burns. WHY, WHY, WHY, WHY? YOU.........you promised........you promised that you wouldn't go away....that you wouldn't leave. Look where that got us..."
Natsuo and Fuyumi ran towards Shoto, bringing him into a big bear hug as he sobbed into their clothes. Tears trickled down Shoto's face as he looked up at the flames.
"I'll miss you brother, you know I'll always love you, forever and ever."
