What makes a fandom 'toxic'?

What classifies as a 'toxic' fandom?

I mean, the answer is pretty easy, since it's the ones who are a part of the fandom that decide to shape it the way everyone sees it. It's not like the whole of the fandom is filled with toxicity, of course. Some just have it more than the others. But sans all the hatred, the way people portray their views positively is absolutely spiffing. Two sides of the same coin, basically.

Unfortunately, it's the negativity that takes the cake in many cases. There is literally a huge variety of fans on social media, but there is one set of them that stands out the most: those who think that their opinion is the 'absolute' one. They don't realise, or just fail to admit, that people with opinions opposing theirs exist. It doesn't occur to person A that just because person B doesn't agree with certain points, doesn't give A the rights to straight-up bash on them. It's the sheer amount of hate in certain comment sections that throws me, or anybody, off. It's but natural that they taint the otherwise good fandom with all the shade they throw around.

Another thing is bashing on the creator of the particular fictional creation. I have heard stories of people sending death threats to the creator for plotting something which goes against some of the fans' wills. Some fans sent death threats to the actors playing as villains!

The problem is that people don't know how to differentiate between what's real and what's not. They cross the line.  Fiction is fiction for a reason: it is unreal, the setting is (mostly) imaginative, and the characters do. Not. Exist. They are created for people's entertainment, and certainly not so that there would be hate in the fanbase.

Needless to say, such people are not inclusive to fandoms only. There are everywhere.

To those who can't respect others' perspectives, just do a 180° turn and see what damage it has caused. It's really not that hard to take a step back and say, "this is my viewpoint, but if you don't agree with it, I understand and regard that."

This is my short take on a huge topic. As I said, the abovementioned is only one of the many types, and unfortunately, I have had encounters with such people. I can see why others are thrown off by certain fandoms. It's just that I can look at all my fandoms and pinpoint exactly what's wrong with them.

That being said, I obviously love being a part of so many fandoms because it's refreshing and fun. (◕ᴗ◕✿)

P.S. stop sexualising minor characters in anime because it's honestly unnerving for everyone, please and thank you.

I kinda mentioned this part of fandom in one of my earlier rants about different types of fans. Well, I wrote that one much earlier, but as I started going in-depth about how fans work, this toxic part stood out prominently. I'm not saying that everything should be rainbows and fairies, but there should be a limit to how much you oppose others.

I had posted this particular rant on my Instagram in January, and today I felt like adding a bit to it, so I wrote some stuff and here we go!

anyhoo, that's all for today. If you don't agree with my opinions on this, fight me!

just kidding. unless-

Okay, ba-bye! Comment, vote, follow- you know the drill.

(also, I've decided to cross-post my story WtSS on another writing called Quotev. Hmu if you are there!)
