It's been three days since Neil woke up. Three days since I entered my room like a bear entering its cave for winter hibernation and slept for 18 hours straight. My parents gave me the space I needed and were understanding when I told them I needed some time to myself before I went back to school
I haven't been totally unproductive though, I've been visiting Neil every day, having study sessions with Josh, and brooding all over the house.
But it was time to get back to school and face the reality. And Ash was here to pick me up and make sure I didn't change my mind.
"Okay, what did I do?" She asked, glancing at me for a brief second while she was driving, before looking back at the road.
"What do you mean?"
"You look like you want to rip someone's head off."
"That's just how my face works sometimes."
She chuckled. "Seriously though, you haven't been as happy as I thought you would be since Neil's recovery. What's bothering you?"
"I'm happy that he is recovering. Couldn't be happier," I mumbled.
I'm just irrationally mad that the accident happened in the first place. I'm mad over the things he'll be forced to give up.
Although, that was just me being negative and refusing to see the bright side. There was no cure for it and there was no point in dumping all of that on Ash, so instead, I asked her about another thing that had been bothering me for a while. "Do you think something is going on with Avi? Isn't he acting weird lately? Weird and distant?"
I was worried about Avi. He wasn't his usual self from the past few days. He was distant and secretive.
After I was sure that Neil was going to be okay, and had finally come out of the fear-induced haze I had been in for days, the thoughts from the back of my mind that I hadn't let myself analyze yet, had come resurfacing, almost overwhelming me.
Ash looked lost in her thoughts for a few seconds before she said, "Actually, yes. He's also been skipping his classes and disappearing to God knows where during school hours."
"He isn't talking much to me. Dad and he were supposed to go to the police precinct together since he was the one who took care of everything, including my car but he bailed on him. For the second time, yesterday. He promised him that he'll make it today."
"Weird." She frowned.
"I'll talk to him today." I sighed when I saw our school come into view.
"Okay, I also want to warn you that you might be in a bit of a spotlight today."
"What?"
"News about your break up with Tyler, your fight with Sam, and everything else is public knowledge now. So people might...talk."
