Hello! I'm Nev! The host of the MTV show Catfish. You've probably heard about that, right?
My co host, Max, has been my buddy for quite some time now. We've grown up together and he is like a brother to me. A really close brother. Really... Really close... Like, loving close? I don't know.
Yea I like him, but I know he wouldn't feel the same. I know Max. I mean, he seems straight. Hell, I wouldn't ever be able to guess if he was homosexual. Or, even bisexual.
I just love the way he smiles at me. I'll make up excuses just to hug him! That's crazy, I understand. But, c'mon. Who wouldn't want to hug that sassy little silver bunny? Right? Him and his cute gray hair and his eyes that always seem to change color with the weather. He is just an awesome guy and I would do anything just to be with him.
----
It was late June 2015. Max and I woke up to see a very interesting email from a girl named Caroline. Max held up his mini cam.
"Dear Nev and Max," I started "my name is Caroline. I've been online dating this guy named Riker for about five years now. We have so much in common and we seem to have the same problems in our life too. But one thing I've never seen was his face. He said he is tall with brown hair and blue eyes but I want to actually see him. The closest I've gotten to seeing him was an attempt to video chat. But, when we went on Skype I saw a fuzzy screen and I could hear a loud woman screaming."
Max and I exchanged quick glances before I continued to read. "I have never even heard his voice until one day, he called me. He said that the screaming was from a television show. But the words this woman was screaming were words no television channel would ever approve of. Who is the person I'm talking to really? Is it even a guy? And if it is, is he a psychopath?"
Max slouched in his chair. "Man. That's crazy!" He said. I nodded. "Yea it was... Hey, this girl doesn't live far from where we are. Should we go surprise her at her door?"
Max shrugged. "Why not?" He smiled at me. Max and I got into the car and he pulled out a letter. Handing it to me slowly, he whispered into my ear, "Don't open it until later..."
His voice was very shaky. What did he have in this letter that made him act this way? Was it? No... It can't be...
----
Once Max and I got to Caroline's house, I knocked on the door. "Hello!" She said as she hugged me. "Come in!" She said as she motioned her hand in the direction of her door.
We all stepped in and she seemed a bit on edge. "Is everything okay?" Max asked. Caroline shook her head no. "I would prefer only Nev being here..." She mumbled.
I looked at the Catfish Crew behind me. "You can all head back to the hotel." I whispered to them. They all stood up and left except Max. He stood at the doorway for a few extra seconds before he looked to the ground, sighed, and walked to the car.
"So, what seems to be the problem?" I asked. She just stared at the ground with a wry smile. What was she doing..? Before I could ask if she was okay, a bag went over my head and ropes tied around my hands. Something hard hit my head and I blacked out.
I came too a few hours later. My head pounded from what ever hit me. The bag was off my head and I was in a cement basement of some sort. Being strapped to the chair and duct tape over my mouth was the scariest thing in my life.
I struggled to break free but it was no choice. I was stuck here. Probably to die... I should have told Max! I should have! Wait... Max... The letter!
I somehow managed to put my hand in my back pocket and pulled out the note. I unfolded it slowly and tilted my head to see what had been written.
I gasped when I saw the words "I Love You" on the paper. My heart pounded in my ears and my face burned red. I needed to get out of here! I just needed to!
