                                                              -Balto's POV-

It was very late at night. I ran non-stop for 5 hours straight. I feel so bad that I left them. They probably think I have abandoned them. I haven't. I could never bring myself to do that. And I was asked to keep them safe. Although we are the strongest pack. 756 hunters and huntresses. 455 Warriors and Guards. 142 scouts. Yeah, we are a pretty big pack. Pretty strong too. I just feel so much guilt and regret that I just left them. I decided to howl to make sure they are okay. Awoooooooooooooo. No response. So, I tried again but louder. AWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. Once again, no response. Awoooooooooo-. My howling was interrupted by my hunger. I decided to hunt something. I sniffed the air to see what scents I could pick up. It took about 5 minutes to finally get something. I sniffed the air again to see what that was. Elk. They are grazing in some hunting grounds. I examined the herd to find the weakest elk or the youngest elk. Then I found an elder. I saw it. It was very weak. So, I decided to go on a targeted hunt for her. I slowly crept down the hill towards her. Very quietly. Then, I stopped for a moment as I accidentally made noise and needed to stay still as the elk were listening. After a few minutes, they went back to grazing. So, I kept moving towards the elder. I moved closer, and closer. Finally, I couldn't get any closer as I would be seen. Except I wish she would come closer to me, I don't think I can make that big jump towards her. Then, a stroke of luck for me. She came very close to me for the grass. I had a chance to pounce and took it. I jumped out from the bushes and on top of her. I snarled a bit and was about to go in for the kill. It would be easier seeing as all the other elk does were panicking and running around. I started to go for her neck but suddenly, my vision went black. My head really hurt. I don't know what happened, but I couldn't see anything. I think I just had a blackout.
