Akira was seventeen when her father told her about his new partner, a man fresh out of the Academy, top of his class, hailed by his teachers as an ace student. Akira's first emotion was envy-this person achieved my goals before I could-but after hearing how fondly her father spoke of him, that feeling was replaced by curiosity.

Koutarou Amon. Bright, brash, hot-headed, honest. All she had were a pile of descriptions and colourful stories, a small picture of her father and his partner that she had snuck a look at (she never knew a man could be that tall), and that wasn't enough to sate her.

When, she often wondered, can I meet this person that Dad likes so much?

Her father was always straightforward, and rarely had he ever spoken so warmly about his subordinates to her. The others she had only heard of in one or two mentions; many of them had disliked working with him, had been more interested in mocking him than learning anything useful, and she knew her father had responded to them with politeness but also distance. That was the same method he had taught her to deal with her classmates, the example he had shown her.

No matter how much it hurt to have her family demeaned in her earshot, Akira persevered with the desire of proving herself to the naysayers.

But clearly Amon wasn't one of them. Her father said there had been misunderstandings between them, but that it was all resolved in time. He was silly, she had thought back then, for doubting her father and then falling for the lies of a ghoul, but at least he learnt his lesson from it.

And she knew that because she followed his meteoric progress from the case reports her father dutifully went over at home, whenever he let her read them so she could improve her investigative skills. They would spend time sitting together and discussing a mission from start to finish, dissecting errors (mostly Amon's-as if her father would be so amateurish) with hindsight.

At some point, Akira started looking forward to hearing more about Amon, because her father looked happy when he spoke about him and anything that made him happy made her feel the same. Things like how serious and sincere he was, how easy it was to rile him up, how he hated spicy food... a list that went on.

She had even gone with her father one day to buy a houndstooth tie as a gift, because he wanted a second opinion before giving it to his partner.

Somehow without ever meeting, as the years went by, that person became a small part of her life, another goal she set for herself.

In her first year at the Academy, Akira poured herself into her studies and strived to become the top of her class, so that she could one day work beside her father...

So that she could one day meet Koutarou Amon.

I've been neglecting Akiramon for a while and I wanted to remedy that, so have this fic I've been intermittently writing for half a year :p. The planned update schedule is twice a week.be on hype till that day!-)

Hope you enjoy!
