An hour later, Pagoniá woke up. She hadn't noticed herself dozing off and was upset that she had fallen asleep while trying to stay alert. While she was still trying to clear her thoughts, Charles entered the room.
"I am taking you to meet the boss," he grunted.
"I'm coming," she declared, getting up. "Is he here?"
"No, he isn't here," Charles answered her. "I will arrange transport to him in a moment."
Pagoniá followed him out of the room. Charles walked down many twisting hallways with her in tow until they arrived at another room. The first thing she noticed was red uniforms.
"Run! Fire people!" she yelled twisting around to run.
"Not so fast," Charles responded, swiftly slapping handcuffs on her. "Those are enchanted. With them on, you cannot move or use your abilities."
"B-but, you're an ice person," she said, her voice wavering in shock.
"No. I just sucked the heat away," he explained with a close-lipped smile. "Any fire person can do that. Come with me." She tried to turn and run, but her legs refused to obey. Instead, she was forced to follow.
"Oh, did I forget to tell you?" he cackled. "The wearer of the handcuffs must obey the person who put them on. Now, no talking."
Pagoniá tried to speak, but her effort was futile. She couldn't do anything other than follow the man who had betrayed her as he led her into a cage and locked the door.
"Sit," he ordered.
Involuntarily, she sat.
"You don't like that, do you?" he asked cruelly, his lip curling. "Well, let me explain something to you. When you are wearing those handcuffs, I have absolute power over you. I could tell your capillaries to stop carrying blood. I could tell your heart to stop beating. And they would obey. I could make you kill yourself without a second thought. Why don't you meditate on that."
Then he left, and she felt her cage wheeled into a truck.
"How dare he do that," Pagoniá seethed. "He betrayed me!"
An hour later, her cage was wheeled back out of the truck and rolled into a prison. Not long after that, Charles paid her a visit.
"How are you doing?" he asked smugly.
She shot a glare at him, trying to speak. Charles walked up and slipped a bracelet on her wrist, unlocking the cuffs.
"You won't need those anymore," he said.
Pagoniá let herself feel hope for a brief moment.
"You misunderstand," he said, noting the hope reflected on her face. "The bracelet works the same way as the cuffs do. You will stay in the cell overnight, but after that, I have plans for you," he chuckled evilly.
"Now, go to your cell. They will lead you." He gestured at some guards standing nearby. "Take her to her cell," Charles told the guards.
Unable to fight, resist, or even argue, Pagoniá followed the guards to her cell, which she was promptly locked into.
