The Art of Silence

I've learned the art of Silence,

for words are sharper than swords.

Phrases are easy to misunderstand,

meaning is easy to contort.

I've learned the art of Silence,

for tongues are coated in venom.

Curses and hexes give birth to fear.

When kids say, "I hate you,"

we let them.

I've learned the art of Silence,

for my words fall on deaf ears.

Why would one talk, and talk, and talk

if the audience either ignores you or sneers?

I've learned the art of Silence.

But which is best, I beseech?

For if Speech is as strong as Silence,

then isn't Silence as strong as Speech?
