I hear my phone ding. I walk over to pick it up, and I see a text from Taylor.
I'm here
I grab my bag, run down the stairs, and jump in her car.
"Hey!" I say with a smile.
"Hey," she says as she returns my smile. "You ready to go?"
Taylor and I decided to have a night out on the town. We decided to go downtown to eat at the restaurant inside the new hotel. From what I've heard, it's really good, so I want to go try it for myself.
When Taylor parks the car, we both climb out. I look down at my knee length light blue dress. It has scallops along the bottom of it as an accent. Then, I have on a locket style necklace. I look back up to focus on where we are walking.
The elevator doors open, and we are greeted with a full-packed rooftop restaurant.
"Wow, it's crowded," I whisper to Taylor.
"Hello. How many do you have tonight?" the hostess asks with a chirpy smile.
"Two," I say.
We follow the hostess to a small table towards the edge of the roof. We have a breathtaking view of downtown.
We sit down and start talking. We talk about how our week has been, what our plans are for tonight, and anything else we can come up with. At some point during our conversation, I see something familiar. I look up and notice that it isn't something – it's someone.
I sigh and turn my attention back to Taylor, hoping that she didn't follow my gaze.
Before I can stop her, she turns around and looks at where I was just looking at. "Unbelievable," she says. "We come here and he shows up. Who is he with anyways?"
I look at the girl sitting across from him and realize it's Mary.
"Mary. I thought her brother said she didn't like Asher. What are they doing together? Where is his other girlfriend?" I mutter out loud, mainly to myself.
"Huh?" Taylor asks, trying to decipher what I am saying.
"That is Mary Hudson. Her brother, Jake, was the one that asked me out for coffee. He said that Asher has been trying to ask Mary out for a while. Jake thinks Asher just wants to use her to get to their father. But, Asher was dating a girl named Brielle. I'll be back," I say as I get up.
Before I can stop myself, I walk right over to their table. I come up behind Asher so he can't see me. I look over at Mary, and pretend to be shocked when I see her.
"Mary, is that you?" I say with fake enthusiasm.
"Hey, Adrianne! It's great to see you!" she says.
"It's great to see you too. What brings you here tonight?" I ask in an interested tone.
"I'm on a date actually," she says. "What about you?"
Asher doesn't even turn around. He already knows my voice. I sense him tense up with every word I say.
"This restaurant just opened. I've heard some great things about it, so I wanted to try it out," I say.
She motions at her empty plate and says, "Well I can guarantee you that the lasagna is amazing. I gobbled all of mine down."
I chuckle with her then say, "Well thank you for letting me know that. I will consider that. I've got to go back and order, but I wanted to say hey before you left."
"Oh, wait. I'm actually glad you said hey to me. I have a question for you. What's up with you and Jake? You were all he seemed to talk about the other night after the party," she says.
