There it is. A Dalek, right there standing before my very eyes. I stare at it - totally gobsmacked.
"Exterminate her! Exterminate The Doctor's Companion!" The Dalek begins shrieking in my face, what is it doing here? Why here - when I'm on my way to work, in the middle of a busy London street? I glance around at the people passing me, all just keep their eyes locked to the ground - the busy British lifestyle. No one appears to notice the blonde girl standing in front of a robot. But it's not a robot..It's an Alien.
"I don't understand..What are you doing here?" I gasp, mentally grasping the fact that if a Dalek is in the paralell world..the Doctor must be here too.
"Dalek are here for Doctor's Companion. We are to exterminate you!" I'd forgotten how damn impossible Dalek's are at communicating with humans.
"Where is he? The Doctor where is he?" The Dalek sits in silence for the longest 5 seconds of my life - before dissapearing before my very eyes.I let out a slight shriek, my hands clasped on my face. Slowly, I reach out to the spot where the Dalek had been moments before - hollering out my name. It must have teleported..If it wasn't just a figment of my imagination. Shaking, I realise I'm at least half an hours late for work. Shit, I hail a cab and slip inside - relieved to find that there's not some extra terrestrial driving the taxi - An Ood driving me to work is definetly not what I need right now!
~
Late afternoon
I sit at my window, gazing out at the ocean views. Sure it's beautiful, but it's nothing compared to traveling through space, being surrounded by a vast ammount of nothing..Witnessing things that no one else ever can. No other human will ever be able to say that she witnessed the end of the earth. Never will any other human be able to say they saved Queen Victoria from a hungry werewolf - which lead to her opening an institute dedicated to tracking down alien's - most importantly the Doctor. And 150 year later leading me here..This universe. This bleak universe, I could never imagine my life without the Doctor, now I'm having trouble remembering my amazing life with him. But this is my life now. Working for Torchwood - the reason I'm stuck in this place.
Enough wallowing, I leave my bedroom and venture into the hotel living room, where I find my baby sister Emily in her playpen. I lift her out, and take her into the bedroom she shares with my parents. Every night I tell her of a new adventure story that the Doctor and I went on.
She falls asleep listening to stories of lazer bearing aliens trying to kill me - maybe not the most child friendly bedtime stories. But it's my way of bonding with her. I watch her sleep in my arms, her ruby red lips pucked as she dreams. When she's awake you see her piercing blue eyes, framed with thick eyelashes. A tuft of blonde hair on her head. Only a year old and already far prettier than I'll ever be.
"I love you precious." I whisper to her, gently laying her down in the crib I picked out for her.
"Emily will grow up looking up to you, Rose." Mum says matter-of-factly, approaching me from behind, her arms crossed across her chest.
"No ones ever looked up to me before." I laugh to my Mother, tucking a loose strand of my pale blonde hair behind my ear.
"You'll scare my poor baby with all these alien fairy tales."
"They..They're all I have, Mum. All I have." I whisper, ducking my head.
"Oh poppet." Mum uncrosses her arms, pacing towards me with her arms outstretched. I gladly throw my arms around her waist, letting my tears spill onto her denim jacket. "You'll find him one day. Maybe not tommorrow, maybe not this month. Maybe not till your 50. But I promise you - you will find him."It dawns on me that I should tell Mum about what happened this morning..Will she believe me? With how I've been acting lately she'd probably convince herself that the Dalek were a figment of my imagination..But it was really there.
"Mum..This morning on my way to work I saw a Dalek. And by saw I don't just mean saw one on the side of the street. I mean it was right in front of me. It told me it had to kill me - it addressed me as the Doctor's companion. Then it dissapeared..It has to mean something.." Mum holds me at arms legnth, studying my tearful expression.
"The Doctor.." We whisper in unison.
