Judge us not equally, Abraham,’ Henry said----
“Saffron! Wake up NOW!” a loud screeching voice shouted in the beautiful silence. I groaned and turned to the clock that stood majestically on the blue painted wall.
8:47 am. The time read. I jumped out of bed, hurried to my closet, picked up the very first clothes placed and ran into the bathroom. I am late.
I freshened and did all my morning routines in a hurry and packed my bag according to the next schedule. I took them and ran down the stairs. “Mom! Breakfast!” I screamed and sat on the table impatiently.
“Here it is!” she sang and placed a plate with cornflakes soaked in milk. Her purple apron smelling like coffee beans and her age-bar reading 40. I munched it in a hurry.
“Slow down, Saf…” my dad whispered holding the day’s newspaper and sipping a cup of coffee. His age-bar displayed 42.
I stared at him for a good three seconds. This is not dad’s usual time to read the newspaper. I turned towards my mom who was busy chuckling.
“Did you fasten my clock’s timing?” I asked my voice low.
“Oh! Trust me darling, I have no share in this crime. Your dad and your sister planned it together!” she pointed to my dad and the room near to the dining.
“DAD!” I yelled and started to hit his shoulder.
“Honey… I-I am sorry...ouch!” he winced and giggled.
“Why did you do this?!” I mumbled and sat in the nearby couch, landing my head on my palms.
“Because you wake up late literally everyday!” my dad said and my mom gasped over dramatically.
I sighed. “What time is it actually?”
“8:00 am” my mom said. “Come help me if you don’t have any other job to do, lazy.”
I sighed again. Well, I don’t have anything to do though. I walked to the kitchen and tapped the door frame thrice.
“Yes?” my mom answered.
“I am not interested in helping after what your husband and your second daughter have done...” I mumbled pouting.
“Alright, go and study without wasting your time.” She sighed and waved her hands to leave.
And instantly I ran into my room and unplugged my phone from the charger.
