Gabriel Reyes - Professionalism

The mission had been a success. Despite the chaos and stress, your team had returned safely. You were a member of Blackwatch, Overwatch's covert ops team, and had been assigned to co-lead special missions when you weren't helping out in the main lab. It was a mystery to you why Morisson had assigned you to Blackwatch in the first place but you suspected it was to keep your coworker in place.

Gabriel, fucking, Reyes.

He was fun and charismatic but he had a temper and you had to deal with that a lot. The tension around the office seemed to increase with time but the others were relaxed enough to remind you that not everyone was a bomb ready to explode. It had become your job to diffuse arguments even if you were often dragged in between them.

You were mainly fond of the two people who didn't either ignore you or yell at you: Jesse McCree and Angela Ziegler. They were there when you needed help and supported you after a long day of work. Today was that day.

Reyes and McCree were arguing, lively as ever. It was really no surprise at this point but you really weren't having it today. "Could you two quiet down?! I've had it up to here with you two!" You motioned to your head, your shouting making them stop.

"It's always 'you're not doing it wrong,' this and 'you're dumb,' that. From now on, you're both wrong! Jesse, stop flirting with all the agents. Reyes, stop making such impulsive decisions! You're costing us valuable intel every time you decide to punch a client in the face!"

The two of them avoided making eye contact with you. Gabriel especially noticed that you'd refrain from using his first name even while you were angry. Moira chuckled behind you and pat your shoulder on her way to the lab. "You tell them, (Y/n)."

You regained your composure and tucked a loose hair back with the rest of the gelled locks. "I don't have time for this..." You huffed and stomped out of the docking area, stoping your way over to the infirmary. You were covered in bruises and decided to ask Angela to check if you had any other issues considering the pain coming from your arm.

"Oh, it's you! That's no surprise," Angela chuckled, preparing the tools. She motioned over to the bed. "What seems to be the problem?" She brought out the stethoscope and checking your heart, moving it from left to right after you took deep breaths.

"I just want one mission that doesn't end in chaos."

"Did Gabriel do something stupid again?"

You sighed in agreement. "We were ambushed because of him." Angela hummed, pressing some special cream on your bruises. "How exciting. I know what'll get your mind off of it."

You turned to her, your head cocked in curiosity. "You could help us out tomorrow night. We're planning a social event and need agents to guard the premises during the event." How was that supposed to help? Well, at least it would get your mind off of Reyes. Things would certainly be much calmer than you were accustomed to.

"Sure. I'll be there tomorrow. I... I'll see you then."

Overwatch had planned an evening party for all of its associates. It was an important dinner party and you were part of the crew that had been assigned to patrol the area. Your job was to ensure there were no assassins trying to get lucky, nor uninvited guests trying to crash the party. So far, things were going well and all the stress from the previous mission had left your mind.

You watched as people danced, using the scope in your rifle to get a better view. You had been positioned in the ceiling of a nearby building, towering above the venue and the view couldn't get any better. "Lucky me. I was getting tired of talking business with the clients."

The sudden voice caught you off guard. You turned around and saw none other than Gabriel Reyes. He was wearing the same simple uniform as you but something about it looked so much better on him. The black jacket was tight around him, the front zipped low enough to expose his collarbone. "Hey, there stranger. Didn't think you'd be hired for this kind of job."

He chuckled as a response. "I can't handle this." You raised an eyebrow.

"This job is too sophisticated for you." He scoffed, placing a hand on your rifle and pushing it downward.

"That explains why you're alone up here and not down there with them." You chuckled and set the gun on the ground, placing both hands on your hips. "I'm still upset about earlier."

"I know..." He rubbed the back of his neck and sighed. It was pretty clear that he didn't feel good about it either. He leaned forward slightly. "I know how to make it up to you." He smiled, inviting you to guess what it was.

"And what would that be?" You challenged him, leaning towards him slightly. It was pretty clear that the two of you had chemistry. You'd been teased about it by the entire department but the two of you always maintained a professional relationship, even while alone. You'd developed an attraction for your coworker, more specifically, the part of him that emerged during missions.

He was calm and collected, occasionally letting his temper get the best of him, but in your eyes, he was the only one. He'd never returned your flirting despite how obvious you were but his smile was all you needed. You did, however, wonder if he felt anything deeper for you and now was a good time to find out.

You were alone with him and overlooked the festive lights from the party. There was no better moment.

"There is one thing..." He continued, grabbing your hands and holding them in his. They were rough to the touch, no doubt from all the work. He let go and held your chin, his warm touch sending shivers down your spine. You couldn't help but lean into his touch.

He closed his eyes as he leaned in and shortened the distance between you, placing a soft kiss on your lips. Once apart, he stayed close. "I'm not naive, you know? I knew what you were doing."

You chuckled and averted your gaze, placing your hands against his chest. "Took you long enough, soldier."

He shook his head in disapproval but kept his smile. "I have a reputation to keep but I'm willing to jeopardize it just to be with you." You returned his smile and leaned in to kiss him again, accepting his feelings.

"If anyone dares question you, I'll kick them to the curb," you said with a laugh. He wrapped his arms around you, swaying side to side in rhythm to the music from the party.
