lil!jack & cg!niki based on the you laugh you lose stream with the duo :))

plot: jack's been on the verge of being small all day but he's really good at hiding and pushing it down, ultimately making him drop hard with niki

disclaimer, not much dialogue in the first half -- pretty much just setting up the later half of the oneshot but whatevs

   He couldn't lie, he felt himself slipping the entire day. With all the excitement with the meetup between George, Niki, Tubbo, Tommy and himself, he could tell it would be a struggle more than not, but he pulled through. No matter how admittedly hard it was, he pulled through.

As the 5 parted ways, a wave of relief washes over him, knowing all the fun has simmered down, and if he was still feeling jittery from the following events, he could just regress once he is in the comforts of his home.

And suddenly another wave of, not relief, but "oh shit" hits him. As he notices Niki has not left his side as she asks, "Wanna get food first before we stream at yours?" making him realize he still has long ways to come before he's released from this in-between headspace hell.

He takes a second to notice he's been standing there blankly, leaving Niki unanswered. He nods, leading the two of them to his car.

If driving wasn't hard already, (Jack and his road rage, not a good pairing,) the fuzzy feeling in his head did not help at all.

The atmosphere of the drive was a peaceful quiet, the pair settling on pure silence, which was probably for the best considering Jack's current state.

Niki was distracted by all the photo-worthy spots they pass by, whilst Jack, seeming focused on the road, but really his thoughts were overtaking him.

Because ultimately, this is his fault. Jack's been putting off his regression in turn for streaming more frequently, so really this build-up is on him.

And curse him for his ability to function like an adult, despite his mind and surroundings telling him he isn't one. The entire day, no one batted an eye because he was so good an pushing it down; meaning once he crashes, he will crash hard.

Luckily, the rest of the time being went easy on him. The two stopped by KFC (with Jack only stuttering a bit more than usual, but he played it off with "I changed my order midway through.") and ate there.

In Jack's experience, he doesn't get overwhelmed by loud and busy environments (as it does for some people), in fact it helps him stay grounded with "big self". And if he was being honest, being with Niki alone is going to be harder than being seated in a public fast food restaurant.

Don't get him wrong, Niki is so great to be around, but that's the problem. Her sheer aura is so gentle and caring and makes you feel so safe, that it's double the difficulty to suppress his mindset.

He gets through it, though. He gets through the drive after the KFC, the brief moment he forgot what key was the one that opens his flat, and most importantly, the Laugh You Lose stream with Niki.

If he didn't think it couldn't be any harder than it already was, he definitely was bested by his own thoughts once again. Niki's lack of self-control for mediocre gags, but really, her contagious as shit laugh? Jack was only grateful he got to end stream sooner than later, because shit, was he exhausted.

The fuzziness that used to just be at the back of his head, now engulfing his entire brain like a heavy fog.

He flops onto his bed after they ended his stream rather abruptly, causing Niki to look at the other in confusion.

"You okay?"

"It's nothing, just tired from the day is all."

Niki squints her eyes, knowing that's not true from his tone all the way to his body language, "Are you sure? If there's something going on, you could tell me. I'm all ears, Jack."

He twitches at her words. Tempted by the truth, he speaks his mind. After everything he's been through in the last 12 hours, might as well tell someone. And who's better to tell than Niki Nihachu?

"Ever.. ever hear of a coping mechanism called age regression?"

Niki walks over from her seat by his PC to sit on the bed.

"Oh, yeah! One of my roommates is an age regressor."

The boy's eyes widen, but coughs to cover up his shock.

"Why are you asking?"

He gestures lightly to himself, keeping his head down.

"You're an age regressor too, huh?"

He simply nods, the inability of speaking washing over him.

"Were you feeling small all day?"

He fiddles with the hem of his t-shirt, not brave enough to look her in the eyes.

But Niki smiles, "Really, sweetheart? Gosh, you were so good at hiding it, I would've never have guessed you were feeling this way."

The softness to her tone sends jitters down his spine. Jack could feel the grip on his headspace be thrown out the window.

"Must've been really hard keeping it all down, yeah?"

The nodding doesn't stop, but the sudden tears rush to his eyes, start. But Niki isn't fazed by it. She moves from her opposite spot on the bed, opting to sit beside him, carding through his hair.

"You did so, so good today, so strong for every single person we've talked to today, even on stream! But I bet that really tired you out, huh? The entire day, hmm?"

Jack hums an agreement this time, whilst the other brushes off the tear-tracks gently with her thumb, smiling. He chokes on a sob, the overwhelming feeling of telling someone about his regression, the sheer plummet into regression getting to him.

"That's all good, bubba. It's okay to cry."

And just like that, the boy hustles himself into Niki's arms, hiding his face in her shoulder. Niki shushes him, rocking the two of them soothingly.

"Little Jack's been hiding for so, so, so long, that I think it really tuckered you out. How about we change into some comfier clothes for some small time. How does that sound, sweets?"

As mentioned, because Niki's roommate is an age regressor, she had her fair share of caregiving every once and a while, so she knew the basics and how to support said regressors.

Her only regret was not noticing Jack's, at the very least subtle tells throughout the day. But as long as she can be here for him now, the past is nothing but the past. 

Thankfully, the younger nods eagerly, "More silly videos?"

Niki chuckles, "My, my. My little You Laugh You Lose connoisseur."
