One sunny morning, as I struggled with my headphones on my way to college, the sound of an engine broke the calm of that spring day. A motorbike purred past me, catching the students' attention. The tires skidded on the concrete before coming to a stop in front of the university's gates. I snorted at that show. The biker put his foot on the ground and took off his helmet, hair fluttering in the wind like a main lead's drama would do.
I walked towards him, heart's content. Seojun noticed me right away, a little grin spread on his face.
''Missing me?'' He said.
I scoffed, faking annoyance while he couldn't be any closer to the truth, ''Don't get ahead of yourself.''
He joked, ''I'm the tea.'' (or maybe not.)
I rolled my eyes, hiding my amusement. He then secured his bike before entering the school grounds next to me. We provoked a lot of looks from people, our new duo didn't go unnoticed. The 'bad boy' and the 'top student'. The 'fire' and the 'ice'. Everything opposed us and that's what made us so special.
Seojun took something out of his bag. Sykie. He brought one every day, and every time I felt this unknown feeling inside growing.
I couldn't hold back a snort though, ''Did your sister give you one again?''
''Yah, what are you implying here?'' He cries out in annoyance.
He didn't give me time to answer and placed the small drink in my hands. He quickened his pace, trying to walk confidently despite his sulky mood. I suppressed a laugh and followed closely. I nudged him in a teasing manner, he gave me a sideways look.
''Thank you,'' I said, opening the drink.
He decided to keep his bored mask on, playing it 'cool'. I could still feel his scent getting sweeter. He was happy. It has been three weeks since I have joined their group. I ate every lunchtime with them and joined them at certain breaks. Seojun and I had developed some habits recently, like meeting up in the morning at the start of class, and it only accentuated my attachment to him.
"What do you start with?" I asked, taking a gander at the briefcase he was carrying.
He followed my curious gaze and hummed, ''I have a recording at the studio, this is the material.''
I nodded slowly, even more intrigued now. I would really like to see him do his job. I hadn't heard Seojun's voice again since the Jenga play and I missed it terribly. It had remained anchored as if it was woven in my memories with a golden thread.
''Are you recording a cover or one of your songs?''
My curiosity was piqued. Against all expectations, I was rather talkative when alone with him. He had that effect on me, the desire to know him dominated my daily silence. My questions seemed to please him, his crumpled expression seconds before was replaced by a genuine smile.
"One of my compositions. I've been working on it for a while.''
''Would you like to start as an idol?'' My mouth spoke on its own, it had become so much easier to chat with him. Nothing was forced.
"Hmm, no. I prefer to give my songs and stay in the shadows,'' he said thoughtfully, ''Being an idol is a lot less idyllic than you might imagine...'' I nodded at that, agreeing.
''So, you prefer to write and compose... But you told me you did concerts, no?''
Seojun seemed to be pleasantly surprised that I remembered this, ''I'm doing it for fun.''
My mouth parted in an 'oh'. He seemed to be gauging my reaction, I must have been more expressive than usual.
''Would love to do your makeup then.''
