EIGHTEEN

B A I L E Y

- Two days until the Gala -

"I feel like I haven't seen Charlie in a month!" I exclaim.

"Busy at work!" Brittney states.

"Is he still coming with us to the Gala?" I ask, taking my last bite of my dinner. I've been hosting since it's just us two.

"Oh definitely! Are you getting excited?" She asks me.

"I am!" I say truthfully.

"Oh good! Good! You are going to love your dress!" She exclaims.

"That's right! I almost forgot about the fancy dress!" I laugh. "I am so anxious. What is going to happen at his event?" I ask.

"Eat great food! Listen to the most boring speeches. A slide show, then a dance!" She explains. "The food is my favorite part."

"Sounds so great!" I smile.

"And remember! Tomorrow bright and early we have another dance class like today." She adds.

They taught me the most difficult dance. I am no good at dancing whatsoever. "Right! I'll need the practice!" I chuckle.

- 7:04 pm -

"It sounds like you had the most boring childhood!" I laugh.

"I did! Compared to my life now! I lived under a rock!" Brittney states. "What about you, do you have any other friends back home?" She asks me.

"I guess. Her name is Christina. We've only been friends for a couple years. I haven't talked to her in a while though." I answer.

"One good friend? Wow, and you're saying my childhood was bad. Come on, who else were you friends with?"

"I don't have any. You and Charlie, and I guess if Willow counts that's about it." I laugh. "Sad, I know."

"So sad! You have to have a childhood friend. Someone you knew a while ago." She pushes.

"Ah- I had a friend when I was like four, or five. He moved so I never saw him again." I answer.

"'He'?!" She laughs. "Does 'he' have a name?"

I try to think in the back of my mind. "Grim. I think his name was Grim." I answer. "I don't know his last name."

"Nice handsome name. I feel like I know someone with that name." She says, sipping from her wine glass.

"Yea, he was nice. I haven't seen him in so long. We played 'Kings and Queens' we'd call it. I wonder where he is now." I say.

- Next day, noon -

We've been no stop dancing non-stop for hours now. The dance is slow, and elegant, yet so incredibly frustrating! I'm trying my best to look like I know what I'm doing at least a little bit. Brittney makes a joke out of the entire thing, laughing at me. But it actually is making it a lot easier.

Yesterday I was really uncomfortable with my partner, he knows what he is doing while I am clueless. But we've all grown more comfortable with each other making this fun!

"Left Bailey! Left!" Brittney shouts trying to distract me.

"No! It's right! Right?" I say back.

"It's right! You're correct! Don't listen to her!" My partner, Warren says.

We all laugh mainly at how bad I am. But I eventually get the hang of it as the day goes on. And when the time comes, Brittney and I are put in heels. My legs look pretty good in heels if I do say so myself. And I've been eating like crazy, so my body is nice and plump again. Dancing in heels is both fun, and nerve racking. I don't want to fall or step on someone's foot. But I do feel very fancy-schmancy.
