After the rogue attacks everything went silent. There were no more sightings. All of the packs in the Northwest Territories banded together to increase patrols. Training increased all over the territories, each pack was sending warriors from one pack to another to spread tactics. Our scouts tried to track down the scent but it was too faint to find a trail. Red Rose and Rocky Mountain both joined the alliance, spreading the word about what had happened to Clark throughout their territories.
Days turned to weeks, things started to back to normal though guarded. There hadn't been an alliance like this between pack territories in centuries. We were on edge, but it had forced us all to be aware that there was something else out there stronger then us alone. Packs we admitting that they needed more allies, we had to work together to protect ourselves. The stories of my mate's survival and recovery were becoming folktales now. Heath was so proud of his baby brother.
My due date inched closer, my stomach continued to swell even more. I could no longer shift without hurting myself or the baby, so I was stuck in my human form which made me a bit irritable. Clark and Cheryl did their best to keep me comfortable but I was ready for the baby to come out. Rose was coming to stay with us the day after tomorrow to be close by when I went into labour. My parents were flying in today; Clark was going to pick them up at the air strip in about an hour.
I went to the library to call Marie. I was able to have a short visit with her after Clark had been attacked but that was weeks ago. It was time I spoke with her. Dialing Anthony's office, I waited while the line rang. Anthony answered, "Good Morning Rocky Mountain Alpha speaking."
"Good morning Anthony, it's Charlotte. How are you?" I smiled when I heard his voice, though I still hadn't warmed up to him completely I was trying to be supportive.
"Ah, hello Charlotte. I'll ask the Omega to get Marie for you." He told me, not even trying to fight me on it. I was relieved he didn't try to keep her from me anymore. I waited on hold for Marie, it took a few minutes until I heard her sigh at the other end of the phone.
"Hi Char, how are you?" she asked coldly. I was taken aback; her tone was very uncharacteristic.
I stifled a sigh, "What's wrong?" Marie exhaled loudly, "Sorry, I'm just having a bad week. Anthony and I got into it last night. He makes me so mad sometimes."
"Did anything happen?" I asked carefully.
She adjusted herself in her seat, I could hear it, "No, nothing like that. He's just trying to control my movements since the attacks that happened up by your way. He's all worried something will happen to me and the baby so no I am not allowed to go outside at all without a guard. It's frustrating."
I nodded, "I understand. If it makes you feel any better, I'm not allowed out of the pack house at all." Marie giggled, "I suppose it could be worse. We are pretty far south though Charlotte. I don't think we are under threat here."
I furrowed my brows at her words, "We thought we were so safe because it's so isolated up here, but we were wrong. It could have been anywhere and no there is no trace of the rogues who attacked us." She sighed, "I know, I know you are right. I shouldn't complain I just wish it wasn't happening."
"I know Marie, me too." I whispered. "How are you feeling?" she asked me.
I chuckled, leaning back into the chair, "I am as big as a house now. Everything hurts all the time and I can't wait for him to be born. I'm not able to sleep for very long periods of time so I'm grumpy as hell."
