After Dumbledore’s funeral, Nymphadora- I mean Tonks –sat in an archway in the grounds of Hogwarts, thinking about how everything was somehow turning bad. She thought about Albus Dumbledore, a man who, even though it was stupid, she always thought would live forever. Tonks remembered arriving at Hogwarts but getting lost from all the other first years while she was looking at the trophy cabinet. Dumbledore had found her and lead her to the great hall to be sorted into the loyal house of Hufflepuff. She thought about the death of Sirius Black last year- killed by her own aunt! She thought about her love for Remus Lupin, and his refusal to have anything to do with her. With all this is her head, she began to cry, not very loudly, but obvious to anyone watching, by the shaking of her shoulders. She felt someone sit beside her. After realising it was Remus, she quickly wiped away her tears- she didn’t want him to see her crying.
“Wotcher, Remus,” she sniffed “How are you?”
“I’m alright, considering,” he answered. “But you’re not. And it doesn’t seem to be only about Dumbledore’s... passing, either.”
She turned to face him. “It’s just...” a new round of tears welled up in her eyes. She hated that she was crying so much. C’mon, Tonks! Pull yourself together! This is just going to make Remus think you’re even more of a child. He’ll probably leave right now... But to her surprise, he did not leave. He moved closer to her pulling her in for a hug, and she wrapped her arms around his shoulders. She breathed in his scent and hugged him tighter, whishing she never had to let go. Without thinking, she spoke.
“Remus, I love you.” She felt him tighten and he slowly pulled away from he. Instantly she wished she hadn’t said anything. “I’m, sorry, I shouldn’t have-” she was interrupted with a kiss. A kiss from Remus. A kiss from Remus Lupin, the love of her life! She couldn’t believe it, and she kissed him back pressing herself into him. Finally they pulled apart.
“Tonks, I-I love you too,” he smiled. She grinned back at him. Maybe things around her were getting bad, but it didn’t bother her as much, because she loved Remus and he loved her back; so nothing was going to get her down.
