NOTHING LIKE THEM

He 28 before becoming a guardian.
Nothing like them.
No fancy armor.
No medals to show for his actions.
Aside from the bones of his latest hunt.

Hunter sat up on top a roof.
The building very much decaying.
Old, and rusted.
But, it was his favorite place to be.
Mostly because he could sit on top and not be bothering by anyone.
He could just watch the ships enter orbit.
And fly their usual path towards the Great Machine.

Looking up at the sky.
He could just make out its shape over the mountain side.
Even reaching up and trancing its outline with his gloved finger.
ROEEEEEEEEEEIR!
Hunter nearly jumped.
Looking down to see a Dreg.
Luckily it was only roaring up in complaint at him.

Getting to his feet.
He back from the edge and walked to the opposite side of the building.
Finding a nice pipe which he could grab hold of and climb down on.
Before leaping off and onto solid ground.
Hunter turned around to see the Dreg wobble around the corner.
Gesturing to the Dreg in hand signals to apologize to them for trespassing.

Though the Dreg click and gurgled in irritation.
It waved its gun at him.
Quickly Hunter scurried away.
Leaving the site, but looking back up at the sky line to watch another ship enter in.
Though, he noticed how this ship seemed to drift.
Slowing his pace.
He glanced back at the Dreg, but saw no sign of it.

So stopping.
Hunter watched the ship further.
Witnessing it descend closer to the earth and further from the usual path.
His eyes would widened behind his mask.
Following it with his gaze till the ship complete disappeared behind a series of buildings.
Following by a flash and a delayed sound of metal collapsing on itself.
His eyes not leaving the smoke that began drifting higher up in the air.
